Hi katlan,
The information you're getting doesn't match what my doctors have recommended.
From the time my reflux got much worse, my family doctor (and asthma doctor) recommended Ranitidine (Zantac) 300mg at bedtime in addition to Protonix 40mg morning and night.
Using both can be more effective than one with patients who aren't responding to just PPI's. They reduce acid in different ways, so they don't really override.
The Ranitidine is not time released, so it's something to be taken right when you go to sleep.
I've taken it in the morning instead of a PPI when I've tried to reduce my PPI usage.
Have you discussed this with your doctor? You doc may have a different opinion, but three of my doctors concur that this is an effective and safe treatment.
Good luck!
Denise
