LPR and laryigitis

Yes, I've had laryngitis from LPR for the last four years. I've had surgery which wasn't successful, I take medication every day but I still suffer. I'm so sorry that you have problems. Your story might be different to mine, but LPR is difficult to treat. Kat x

I have odd days when I feel ok, but mostly I don't feel good. I'm seeing my doctor again on Monday. He might suggest further surgery. I don't know what I'll do. I'm sorry you have this awful condition. Kat x

I lost my voice once for two solid weeks due to LPR.
I had a 270 degree wrap done and it has helped me tremedously. I haven't lost my voice any since the surgery and the constant coughing is gone.

6 weeks with no or hoarse voice. Can't speak much. People can't understand me half the times. I manage a building and talk all the time. Now it is so difficult to communicate. I can't eat right. I don't want to go out to eat because I feel like I am choking. There has to be some type of treatment that can improve this disease. I don't have much coughing but when I do I feel like I am turning inside out. Nice talking with someone who understands.

I had a partial wrap. Very, very slight improvement in that I no longer feel like a have large lump in my throat the whole time, but I still have LPR and heartburn. Kat x

My mother always wondered why they call them "the Golden Years". She said that getting old isn't for wimps! Was she ever right.

I believe I've also suffered and to some extent still suffer from LPR. I also have asthma, and had to have the Nissen Fundoplication surgery, because my reflux was creating havoc with my breathing. It was becoming a life threatening situation, and I was even hospitalized for a week because of it.

After the surgery, (I had a full wrap) my lungs improved tremendously. Because of that I am very happy I had it done. I do believe that it has loosened sometime in the past two years, or wasn't made tight enough...who knows.

Still, I think the surgery is a very positive option for those of us who suffer from reflux. Like you, my reflux is "atypical"--not the common wide-open LES allowing acid and food to regurg into the throat and mouth. The amount of reflux I had/have is "within the normal range".

I even went to a surgeon and went through complete testing (barium swallow, manometry, 24hr PH monitor, and endoscopy) to see if I needed to have the surgery redone. He said everything was intact and normal, and he wouldn't touch it.

So, although my reflux is very minimal, and I don't get heartburn anymore, I still have some hoarseness and coughing presumably caused by it. I also have severe allergies, so it's hard to separate the two. My allergist is certain my sinus, throat, and vocal chord issues are all reflux. I know they're not all reflux, but, whatever.
It kind of takes him off the hook, doesn't it?

Do you have the head of your bed elevated? Are you following the recommended eating/diet/timing for reducing GERD? Those are a great starting point.

As far as insurance, I guess it depends on the state you live in, but I believe there are high risk pools being formed to allow people like you to get insurance more affordably. Is that where you went?
