I live in  Southern California and am In need of a Doctor that performs the Nissen Fundoplication.....I'm not able to Locate...Please share.....I see Doctors that perform the new procedure only..S.O.S

How did you try to find a surgeon? Here's what I found in five minutes on Google:

There was a surgeon at USC that was one of the top 5 in the country; I don't remember his name, but that is where I would start

I live in Oregon so don't know of any doctors there....My gastro is who suggested a surgeon for me..and that was who I went with..Good Luck I know how nerve racking it is wondering if you have a good one picked..

I am sorry re the long wait and my I suggest you ask your PCP, others that may have had the same experience as you have,  as well as do check out the University hospitals re the GI departments.

I wish I had someone to refer you to but I am in MN.  I do understand you anxiety re choosing the right surgeon.

There have been many posts in this forum of the program at USC; you can do a search (at the top of the page) to see what you can find; but I do remember that one of the pioneers of the surgery is/was at USC. Have you checked their website?

I have just been living with this problem with tears every night. I have been on fire in the throat and my chest. It's been 2 whole days. Usually after 24 hours the fire is out....I can't afford to go to E.R. once a week, due to the high copay and the balance of the bill not covered. I can now feel another bulding on my right side.....I dont know what it is. Can a hiatal hernia move to another location in the stomach? So many questions and it seems as it's no one to help me....Im living in total misery....so tired of throwing up and 3 in the morning.......:(

I am sorry to read of your misery.  I agree going to the ER every day is not your answer.  It would be good if you would see a GI physician regularly to try to control your sx and if you need surgery your GI Doctor would be the one to guide you in the right direction.

I am also sorry to hear of your problems.. they sound very similar to mine before the Nissen, I didn't have burning because I was on two 40mg Nexium a day, but the throwing up is too familiar.. please talk to your PCP or GI doc..

I went to my GI doc and he said that surgery was an option and to let him know when I was ready.. I actually went to my PCP and told him I was passed ready and please refer me.. he did and I am good to go..

I live in a small town in Florida so I was referred to a surgeon in a larger city on the east coast about 45 minutes from my home. It was worth it, the best decision I ever made for me...

That has been my one issue, I have waisted so many years with several doctors at UCLA...Im starting to think they are not Pro Surgery...I have taken the series of test in 2005 and again 2007. Now I'm pretty sure the Doctors will have me do all the test all over again...Im so exhausted i can just cry.....I want to make sure I go to a Doctor who cares and who is for NF. This is why I say anyone who has a Gasto Doctor that cares please leave info...I will share a few of my test results...
Upper Panendoscopy with biopsy: (results) Les was markedly dialated...did not close throughout the procedure.

*Esophagel Motility Test:
Lower Esophagel sphincter pressure was 8 mmHg
Impression: Mildly with abnormal motility study with decreased lower esophageal spincter pressure. These findings may be secondary to longstanding reflux or possibly associated to Lupus.
4cm hiatal hernia between 11 oclock and 1:00


These doctors have wanted to put tickers in my stomach...(Im not having that) I've had test that shows food digest slow. The doctors have put me on meds that the FDA has not approved. (Domperion)

I have suffered with test from 2005 to current...How many more test do I need...
Im getting tired of pulling into restrooms with bouts of pain in the stomach and the urge of exploding....I cant even drink a glass of water without feeling like Im choking....I have prayed a many prayer and I have faith that my break through is coming....It just amazes me you can go to the ER....get pain meds mylanta with anesthesis a million times and have it documented....TO BE IGNORED....:) Im ready for relief......

If you have slow digestion the stimulator that I believe you called "tickers" could be a solution for you. Some people who suffer with slow digestion and have the nissen wind up with even more trouble.
Image filling up a ballon with water and it only having a small pin hole in the bottom. It emptys but it takes a long, long time.
The stimulator could help with speeding up the emptying. It's very new and could be a good solution.
