I think i have stomach gastritis and what can i do?

For the last few days, i had been experiencing some extremely tough issues. as soon as i get hungry, i started to get very nausea and wanted to vomit. als follow by a minor pain just below the left breast area, with chest discomfort all the way up to the neck. i also felt a discomfort in my lungs going down from my neck down to the stomach. aldo i am extremely weak and tire. after i eat something, i feel better, but i can not eat much at one time and it comes back about every 3 hours or so. so i had been eating every time it happens. the worst thing is i am traveling. this happens as soon as I was on the plane. it has been a few days and i had not been able to do anything except trying to sleep ot out.

a week ago, i had a tooth infection with a lot of pains and took keflix for a few days. the tooth pain went away, but my gastritis starts. also i am taken NSAID drup for arthritis, i also been on Nexium for a year alread for GERD.

also my anxiety level just went off the chart, keep on worrying the chest pressure i coming from my heart and what if i hae a heart attack while i am traveling, it just made the pressure even worst.

what can i do and what should i do. please help.

I think you should stop taking the NSAID. They can cause ulcers in the stomach and until you can see your DR about this pain you should not take them.

thank you for your reply, i wish i can stop taking these drugs, but j can not, because tha is the only way for me to me moving around. i have bad bad arthritis that required these meds

Achy joints will not kill you.  A bleeding ulcer will.  Please stop taking the NSAIDs until you can see your DR.  Use tylenol (i know, completely inadequate!) between now and then.

I agree, stop the NSAIDs until you can check in with your Dr.   You might try taking taking antacids for what you feel is gastritis. Also even if you are traveling there are always walk-in clinics to be found so you could be seen at one of them if things become unbearable until you return home.

You need to see a dr. for that arthritis. Sitting for a long time is bad for arthritis. You can suffer from Gell phenomena. Try ice packs and pain rubs for the achy joints.

thank you for all of your reply. i di not mention my arthritis issue is extremely server and been on drug most of my life. doctor put me on Nexium for the GERD and to protect my stomach from the NSAID, i certainly will check with my doctor when i return, but in the mean time, i went to see a local doctor while traveling and gotten another anti acid med on top of Nexium. i also have to eat more frequently to make sure i have something in my stomach.

Glad to hear you did see a Dr. - kudos to you.  :-)

I am wondering if you have RA or Osteoarthritis.  We do have forums for both on HealingWell.

it is neighter, it is anklosing spondylitis, te worst of all, i already had both hips replaced and a recent surgery on te shoulder. i post on that form before as, but that is not my primary concerned at the moment, it was the gastritis and the chest discomfort that is worrying me, on top of the worried, it kicks my anxiety into overdrive. i am also talking to a doctor online just to insured all the issues is non heart related. thanks again for all your replies

Ankylosing spondilitis can affect the sternum bones too. Maybe that is the source of the chest pain.

actually it can and felt it before, i have been living with it all my life and very much know the difference between it. went i am off the meds for a day or so, i can feel the pain cause by the the AS. but other times it is not, the pain and pressure are very different and in different locations.

I'm so sorry to hear you're having so many problems. I feel for you having to take NSAIDS with GERD. Has anyone recommended trying Carafate Suspension? It coats your stomach and esophagus and helps things to heal. I believe it was actually developed to help heal ulcers. I find it an amazing tool when I've gotten into gastritis or inflammation of the stomach/esophagus. It might be worth a try. (it is tricky with taking meds...2 hours before or after Carafate. Also meals...take Carafate 2 hours after a meal, or 1 hour before)

At least it would be helpful to coat your stomach with a product like Maalox or Gavascon. Many of us have had the type of GI problems you have described. The anxiety only makes it worse, but it is also a common accompaniment to GERD symptoms.

Thank you for your reply, no one has recommend Carafate Suspension nor I have try that yet.  I am currently in a Country that does not have all the meds we have in the States.  they have their own local brand which does not help much.  anyway, my gastritis is a lot better the last couple of days, at least I am not feeling the vomiting sensation. 

I will keep that in mind upon my return. Yes and NSAIDs are necessary at the current point where other has failed. My doctors assure me that as long as I am on Nexium, my stomach should be fine.  that is coming from both my GI and my Rheumatologist.  I will need to pay them a visit when I return as well. 

Actually come to think of it, I think I figure out why I got Gastritis all of a sudden.  I been having some tooth pain with infections and my doctor gave me some Keflex antibiotic. it got rid of my tooth pain, but leaving me with the Gastritis.  I looked up the side effects of this drug and that is one of the effects.  I guess I am the lucky one who got it.  I stop the drug already

I am wondering if you have Crohn's Disease as AS and Crohn's often go hand in hand ?

oh, I am very fortunate, no Crohn's Disease. one less thing to worry about from my many issues already. don't need anything else on top now. Thanks for asking.

I avoid antibiotics like the plague, as they almost always cause gastritis and have even put me in the hospital with gastritis/reflux caused asthma. The only two I feel comfortable taking at this point are Amoxicillin and Z-pac.
So sorry you're suffering! I feel your pain!

Thank you for the information, I wish I had spoke with you before taking Keflex. I believe I had taken Amoxicillin and was ok, but forgot the name until you bought this up now. thanks for everything. I hope from here on, it's fine now.

I just wanted to add, with the many complications, I kind of lost my touch on determining where the problem is coming form. GERD, Gastritis and medication can all cause some of the same issues. it is very hard to determin what is the cause of the discomfort at when things happen.

Just an 3 hours ago, I took a Celebrex, just about an hour ago, I felt my heart is racing fast, and lot of air from my stomach. suddenly i felt my body in chill and very much wanted to vomit and nausea feeling. issues like this, I can not tell it's the side effects of the Celebrex, or is the celebrex causing my GERD to do this. I also ate before I took the Celebrex.

So much complications and can't seem to get it fix.

It would definitely be wise to journal your experience...what you take/eat/do and the symptoms that follow. If you have concerns over the Celebrex reaction, it seems like it would be wise to contact your doctor and discuss it.

Finally I am safely back home in the US. A few days ago, I decided to listen to all of you who gave me the advice to stop the NSAID, even if I have to bear with the pain, I did stop taking Celebrex as well as Tylenol 3, where it also gave me some problem as well. My stomach felt a lot better, at least I didn't get the feeling of being very sick after taken the Celebrex. My GERD is still a problem, but at least the Gastritis did not act up as bad as before.

I am in terrible pain, I think it is time to look for an alternative to Eastern Medicine, maybe try Herbs for a while and see if it help or not.

Also, just a couple of days before I left for home, I went to a hospital in Hong Kong to get an alternative blood pressure medication, because my previous one for some reason did not work, my blood pressure was at 160/110, they gave me Aldomet. The blood pressure sure drop, but after 2 days of taking it, I got an allergic reaction from it. My body is full of hives and very itchy. Luckily it is just hives and no other reaction. I was worry I would have complications while I was on the plane, fortunately I did not. as soon as I landed and got home, I went to ER here in the States, they gave me a few shots, which it didn't seem to. A shot of Pepcid, Solu-Medrol and 50mg Benadryl, it's been almost a days and it did not seem to help at all. I am still cover with hives and still very itchy. Hospital also gave me some Prednisone and more Benadryl for home treatment. But they want me to take 20mg x 2 of Prednisone per day for 5 days. I took a 20mg today and I didn't feel right this morning. I did went to see my PA today, he said if I have to take Prednisone, just take 10mg, since my case seems to be mild. If it is not one thing, it's another, so frustrating.

I'm glad to hear you're back in the USA, and I certainly hope you find some answers to your problems very soon. Those of us who have multiple issues find it difficult to balance one problem without unbalancing another. Reactive stomach/gastritis issues make it extra hard to treat anything.

Good luck getting rid of the hives/itchies. Hopefully you'll calm down very soon.

My doctor gave me vistril for my allergic hives. Maybe you can ask your doctor for this. It took three weeks to get rid of them, but the medicine helped while my system got over it.

It seems as the old hives are subsiding, but there are some new develop rash on a daily basis. not large, just small area, but very annoying and itchy. On top of that, I develop a pretty bad dry cough over night. I was coughing so bad, it hurts my lung like a burning sensation. as you can see, it's almost 2 am and my cough is keeping me up. my doctor gave me Betamethasone Dipropionate USP, 0.05%, seems to help
