I had the hiccups after my surgery. It mainly happened when I over ate. I just had to be careful how much I ate those first days.

Because of hiccups TIF already failed, my hiccup lasted for more than 24hours and everytime i had hiccup i was burping a lot. And after my hiccup stopped my reflux came back. i hope doctors will find a solution for that. Life is really not easy. i am suffering from both LPR and GERD, sometime i think of the worse.

confused  Hi Everyone

Just an update on my surgery. I will be 8 weeks out on Wednesday and I also had the burning in the chest and went to my doctor. He put me on a med that did not agree with me so after 2 days we stopped the medication. My burning is now gone and the only time I notice it is when I become really stressed. So there could be something to that. I can eat pretty good now but have had a few things to take my mind off of it as I was diagnosised with a degernative cervical disc problem. I will be going to therapy for that. And we found out Sunday that our 37 year old son passed away. But we are coping.

Thank you all for the support you continue to give to me. So try not to stress and hopefully it will help the burning in your chest. Also when you eat try to be as relaxed as you can.

Dear Carol,

I am so sorry to hear about your son. As a mother of a 34 year old son, I can easily identify with the pain you are going through, and you have my sincerest sympathy.
You can be sure that your friends here will be sending their prayers and good wishes your way.

Thank you for posting your progress at 8 weeks. It is extremely helpful to others who are either contemplating the surgery or recovering themselves. It is good that you were able to get some relief from the pain, and could pinpoint the trigger--stress.

Sorry to hear about your back...I'm also a grandma, so am at a similar age. I'm sure all of us are starting to fall apart in a similar way. Unfortunately it's part of the aging process. My husband is in PT at the moment because of back problems and sciatica, which is excruciating and is keeping him from sleeping.

Thank you so much for you support in everyway. Yes my husband and I were just talking about how God is in control and we know that things happen the way they need to happen. Sometimes it is hard to see why but we have to keep our faith. Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope that his therapy helps and please keep me posted. Thank you again for being so supportive.

Acid in the mornings and some reflux is all this normal? I ve feeling sad cuz many plans I had now I see them so far I am only 23 years old, also help me telling me what kind of food should I eat

Thank you so much for the support. I know he is in a better place and out of pain as his lungs were very bad and started to get tumors. There are times when it is very hard and I try to remember he is out of pain.

Hi Jorgito,
Yes, it is normal to get some reflux in the first weeks of recovery. Your wrap is still swollen, and may not be settled into place properly yet. Often doctors will suggest patients who are still getting some reflux should take their PPI meds until things get completely healed.

It takes 6 months for most of the healing to occur post surgery, and a year for the remainder of the healing to take place. It is important that you understand that your GI tract has been completely revised. Just because the outside incisions have healed doesn't mean that your insides are healed. I presume you had a hernia repair, and the top of your stomach has been stretched, wrapped, and stitched to create your wrap. These are not small things.

Try to relax into your recovery and allow it happen. Worrying and struggling against it is unhelpful. If you are very concerned, by all means, call your surgeon's office and arrange for an appointment to discuss your problems. That way you can hear what he has to say.

I hope that you feel better soon. Try to rest and relax, and avoid stressing. It won't help at all.

Today was a pretty bad day for me. I woke up very short of breath. I am not sure if it is because of the disc problem in my neck, or the nissan or just some stress from the loss of our son. It is probably all of it. Not everyday is bad. I am holding onto my faith. Thank you for the prayers and thoughts. It is really needed at this time.

Hang in there, things will get better, that is what I am trying to tell myself, my heartburn symptoms are slightly better, however I have been constipated recently, and guess what? Hemorrhoids appear, and they appear really bad, I am in so much pain, my ass looks like a purple cauliflower on steroids, sorry for being graphic, I am in so much fear that I would have to have hemorrhoids surgery also, fortunately I have the best boyfriend that he does everything to make me feel better, he help me a lot and make things more easy to me, at least he haven't get tired of me :). I have been postponing my wedding for the last year and a half, because of all the health issues, it looks like the universe doesn't want me to get married before turning 30, but this time we don't care, as soon as my ass gets better, we will run to the city hall. I wanted to be totally healthy for that for now I am taking a different approach, now I am thinking that maybe the fact of punting my life together with someone that I really love will make everything better, at least we will support each other. So everybody that is still suffering, lets all try to be positive that better things will come for us in the future.

Hi my name is Cindy, I have had the Niseen Wrap 14 weeks ago.  My problem is this:  I get gas build up at the site where the wrap is and unless I eat something heavy, I am not able to burp it up.  Anyone else having this problem?  I have read where this surgery takes a year to heal and six month to even notice a significant difference.  Is it common to get gassy every few or a couple of hours.  No matter what I try, it doesn't seem to help.  I can't stand eating so often.  I think something is wrong unless some people out there are experiencing the same.  Any help would be appreciate

Laura, have you tried probiotics...they are suppose to be really good for getting your flora back. They are great for moving your bowels. They get rid of the bad bacteria and put good bacteria in.

Laura, Try 4 tablespoons of mineral oil and 1/4 cup of water mixed. You can have it until it runs out of you. It will help your problem.

Make sure you run to city hall quickly!!!! It means so much to have a supportive person. I do not know what I would have done without my husband. We will be married 30 years this year. We have been through so much so as long as you have a good person to be with things will be okay. I thank God for this forum.

Hello, can anyone comment on burping...does it ever go back to normal. Also when the gas starts to build up, it is necessary to eat or can gas X help. Someone please help me, here.

I took a lot of gas-x during those first weeks for my burping.
No trouble now with it.

Thanks for your reply Joy. It's been 15 weeks now for me. My burping has not come back to normal. I do burp but it not a natural thing for me. I sometime have to rub my stomach to get the burp out. How long has it been since you had the surgery and how many weeks before it came back to normal. I am thinking that I might need a dilation.

Hi guys thank you so much for the support, just a quick update, I had my barium swallow today, according to the person that did it, everything looks fine, no reflux, and everything look in place, however I haven't talk to my surgeon about it, we will see next week when I have the appointment with him, but OMG, I thought I was going to be constipated after drinking the barium, I started to have cramps and signals that I need it to go to the bathroom soon while I was still in the subway back home, jeez, I thought I was not going to be able to make it home. Carol and Jorgito I hope you guys are doing better.

Hi Laura,
Glad to hear you had good results on your Barium study. It's my experience that when a resident gives you the report immediately following the test, the results are the same when you discuss it with your doctor. Yikes! A ride on the subway must have been pretty scary with your lower GI tract giving you fits! Glad you made it home!

My gas issues were more of the lower area, cindy. I'm not as bad now as I was, but I'm still not silent and I'm definately deadly! :))
Give it time and take gas-x while you wait.

Laura, I made the mistake of going to work right after my first barium swallow. I felt like I had rocks moving around inside me! I learned to take a laxative right after the test to prevent that problem from happening again.

hey Joy, well I think in my case the barium made a laxative effect in me, I don't know if they give me something in the image center that was to prevent constipation or not, well if they did it work, because I went to the bathroom 2 times today, and my stools were loose, but at least I am not constipated which is good, it was so weird I had pain in my upper stomach and nausea when I finish the test, I was so scare of throw up but in the subway ride it went away, then my anus started telling me "I need to expel something NOW", I got to my building, and I live in the 11th floor people, so I have to wait for the elevator, that was eternal, then I finally got to the toilet and I was relieved, then I started doing some work ( I am one of the lucky ones that work from home ), and while I was siting in front of the computer I started having pain in the lower right abdomen, it was not very severe but annoying, then the cramps came, it wasn't severe, but I couldn't focus in doing my work (this last couple of days I have been having extremely challenging projects at work), so I took the afternoon in the sofa watching TV, then like at 5pm I went again to the bathroom, and everything was ok again, no more pains, still some minor cramps, I didn't knew that the barium could be so laxative and could cause those pains. I thought I was going to be constipated for 3 or 4 days, because I have had constipation all my life.
