Pregnancy AFTER Fundoplication

I am scheduled for a Fundoplication Surgery after my wedding in June and was curious if anyone hear had gotten pregnant after the surgery?  We will want to start a family soon. 

My surgeon wasn't sure if there would be any issues, but recommended I have the surgery first.  

My surgeon recommended the same thing. He said if I had heartburn this bad now, it would get ten times worse with pregnancy. It might depend on the doctor, but my surgeon said it is best to wait at least a few months, preferably six, before trying for a pregnancy. This ensures that your body has healed and pregnancy will not compromise the results of the surgery.

I have heard of at least one person getting pregnant about a month after surgery and there were no issues. So I would go with the advice of your surgeon.

Thanks for all the replies!  My surgeon didn't think pregnancy would compromise the wrap, but I could see how giving my body a little bit of time to heal is smart.  I am already in my mid 30s, so I can't wait too long to start trying for a baby, so I will have to weigh the pros and cons. 

I am getting really nervous about my June Fundo, but I know it will be worth it. 

ooh - what nice plans! I just wanted to say that I had very bad nausea (and vomiting many times a day) and reflux from the first month of being pregnant. I would ask not the effect of heartburn but the effect of repeated vomiting on the wrap!!

I also wanted to mention that heartburn and reflux can start early if it's an effect of the hormones - so I wouldn't assume you're safe until the baby is big enough to get its feet under your ribs!

Hopefully you won't get any such troubles but I just wanted to suggest you check at what stage the wrap can withstand repeated vomiting!
