NEWBIE-Palpitations with GERD also Diet advice Needed

Hi.  I'm Beth from the fms and arthritis boards, I have IBS and GERD as well as an ulcer.  I wanted to share with you that it takes time for your GERD to heal and get under control, so in a few months, after medicating for some time, you may be able to handle some spicier foods.  Just don't over do it, everything in moderation!  Hope this helps.

I just had to reply to your post one more time.  I live in the US and have a neighbor by the name of Helen, who is also a very good friend of mine.  And get this, her last name starts with the letter V.  I thought you were her at first! But then I saw where ryou are from the UK!  Wow, freaky!

Hi. My name is Sari. I am new to this board. I am also suffering form gerd symptoms. I get the heartburn ,and burning in the throat/chest after I eat. I eat a very bland diet, and I still get the symptoms. I have had all the tests,EGD, 24hour ph, and esophageal motility. These all came back pretty much ok. They only saw some imflammation in the esophagus. I even take aciphex everyday, but still have symptoms. This all started about a year ago after I had taken some antibiotics. I just dont understand why I have such bad symptoms. I have tried everything. I even went on a trial of antidepressants thinking it was stress, but this did not help my symptoms.Has anyone esle had these similar symptoms?Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this might help. I have GERD as some of you do. Also I am a heart patient as of 9/04. I had stents put in and my diet had to change. Now, thats what I wanted to share because my GERD is almost gone. I still eat hot foods at times, tomato sauce etc. But what I don't eat is any deep fried foods (or very little) and I watch my intake of "bad fats". I also switched to olive oil for most things including salad dressing (nothing but olive oil and vinegar). Now, I do buy the very good Italian olive oil, there is a difference in quality and taste, no matter what you might have heard. With a name like Vinny (No it's not German,lol) I would know. I'm not sure which of these changes helped or all of them, but I only take my medication on occasion now. Hope this might help.   

Yes, Gina, some recipes for us folks with GERD would be real nice. I saw the post by Vinny that she does not eat deep fried foods and neither do I. I also use only Olive oil for everything and for the past 3 weeks have only been drinking spring water as the chlorine in tap water may not help the throat. So far not much has helped a lot. Hope you find some tips here to help you. There are some great folk here who are willing to share their ideas to help each other. Carol

I am also on the spring water but it has helped me.  I never ever drink tea anymore as tea brought on awful symtons.  I only ever drink milk, water heated with a spoonful of honey, not sure if it helps but it sure dont get any worse.

Yes, I did have the fluttery heart problem until I had my Hiatius Hernia fixed.  You may need to see a specialist for a EGD Test.

I had 4 inches of the stomach in my chest that caused the fluttering when I scrunched up my chest getting up or bending over or a side effect of the meds. In my case, I haven't had the hernia fixed!  Good luck!
