Surgery on Friday...partial or full wrap?

I just got back from my honeymoon and I have my fundoplication surgery scheduled for Friday.  My doctor is letting me decide this week if I want the partial or full wrap and I am so torn!

I am terrified of the side effects from a full wrap.

I also read that most countries don't even offer it any longer.

They only do partials.

However, my doctor told me that partials may come undone more easily and I worry about going through surgery for nothing.

Any partial wrap survivors out there?

The partial seems to allow more room meaning you can still burp etc. My surgeon swears by it as there are less complications afterwards. Good luck!

It should be up to the doc, not the patient to decide what's best! The decision should be based on fact, not simple unstudied preference!! Good grief, didn't you have any testing done? Doesn't your doc make the final decision during surgery when he sees what's available to use?

My wrap is a Toupet, based on my very poor swallow - only about 40%, and not being able to dissect down enough esophagus for a full wrap. Mine is sewn to the esophagus - different from Joy's, but very similar. I could burp a little, and mine has stayed intact even though I had a bad episode of attempted vomiting (medication I didn't tolerate) which caused a reherniation. I don't have reflux, but I'll need a fix of the hernia.

A normal person, particularly men, with a good swallow should be able to have a full wrap. A lot of people with full wrap can still burp. No matter the wrap, most of us can't vomit.

Let the doc tell you what you NEED!

I had the 270 which is still a partial wrap. I can burp but nowhere near as well as I could (which isn't such a bad thing really). Thankfully not tried vomiting and am pretty sure I don't want to unless it's absolutely necessary just in case as I've heard it can ruin a wrap. It's a case of being a lot more concious on a heavy night of drinking and avoiding any dodgy looking food. Looking back at the first few weeks it seemed like ages when I was on the silly liquid diet but you recover so quickly you'll be eating and drinking normally in no time.

I was burping from day one. You will get flatuation (bad) for several months though.
I was swollen for about three weeks.

So I just found out my surgeon has done many full wraps...but never a partial.  He said the partial wrap is very similar  can do that suturing either way.  I am really freaked out about being someone's guinea pig, but I also felt way more comfortable with a partial wrap.  Eek.

It looks like you and I share the same issue. I had my manometry done and Im only able to swallow 40% of the time. My surgeon recommended a 'partial" wrap either toupet or dor. He still wants to redo my manometry and do a barrium swallow before he make a definitive decision. I wasn wondering are you happy with your results? The fact that you have poor motility are you able to eat normally with the partial wrap you had done? Did you suffer a great deal after surgery? Are you able to burp? Love to get any feedback because it looks like I will be getting surgery soon. Thanks
