Thanks, Joy. Yes it has been fun. My son's fest went really well, and lots of parents were there. He had T-shirts made for all the kids and the adults that work in the classroom. He made up special silly/humorous awards for each student based on their unique characteristic or something that happened during the year. All in all, it was a fun, but exhausting, day!
Thanks again for carrying the load while I've been off doing things. I try to get on whenever I possibly can and post on a few threads. You've got things in control, though!

Good Morning All,

I am doing well and did my midnight overnight at my in-laws on Monday.  I know they truly appreciated and enjoyed having me at their home to help them.

I have found that my intake of Diet Coke is less when I am at their house as they don't have any -  smilewinkgrin .

Where in the world is Bill these days rolleyes  ?  I hope he is well.

I am reading through the forum and posting here and there as well as keeping out spammers.  I am trying to welcome newbies............and yes oldies back to the forum.

Things always look so good on the forum as the members do interact well.

I'm sure your in-laws are thrilled to have you there to share your expertise and TLC! I'm glad you're hanging in there. I think of you often, and am wishing you well.

You were the one who set the tone on this forum and created the loving community that sticks around here! Not every forum is as welcoming and encouraging as this one, and you are the reason why this one is special. I see you popping in to say hi! Your medical expertise is so helpful! I know people appreciate the information you provide, and the encouraging way it is presented.

Things are settling down a bit for me, so I'm trying to show my face more consistently. Joy has been a real trooper, and has worked hard to ensure that threads continue to be active. It means so much for a new poster to feel like others have heard him/her. Thanks, Joy! I'll do my best to be more help now!

I would like to say that I have seen Kitt, Denise and Joy since my early days creeping around in here, just getting a feel for the forum. I can honestly say that I decided to post and stick around because of you three. You have such an honest way of welcoming everyone. There is no pretense and the advice and concern are sincere. That is why I am staying as long as you all will put up with me...

Kitt, I do hope MIL and FIL are doing well and please remember that you cannot help them if you exhaust your self.. take time for you.. they need you. I have been there only it was with my Mama (alzheimers) and Dad (just ready to go after Mama passed).

Joy, what can I say.. on top of the great advice, you make me smile!!

Denise, you and I have interacted the most. You are a great person and you give good solid advise. You have a sense of humor and You make me smile!!

I normally don't even join forums that are public (not requiring a membership to view). After lurking and seeing how warm and caring everyone was here I decided to bite the bullet and ask for help. There are lots of places to ask for help, but this place was just different. The members and moderators really do take the time to help and encourage. I'm sure even those who don't post benefit as well. So a big thank you for all you guys and ladies do. turn turn turn

On my road to life this week I finally felt like having some sewing fun yesterday. yeah Nothing major just a little crafting. I even ventured out to a party where I didn't know but one person! Well my daughter was with me, but she was busy swimming and playing. I took a mug with a protein drink and just sipped during the party. Only one person asked me why I wasn't eating. Thank goodness. All in all it was a good day.

Thank you both for your very kind words! Joy and I were so desperate for information as we were trying to make the difficult decision to have the Nissen surgery that, like you, we were happy to find this very special forum.

I'd never posted on a forum, either. After posting here, I tried another fairly active forum, but it lacked the warmth and support of this one.

Kitt and others who were regular members on the forum welcomed me warmly, and provided me with lots of practical and realistic information about their own experiences with the surgery. After reading so many scary posts, it was great to "hear" real people with real experiences responding to my questions. They were very positive about the surgery, but shared the downsides, too. I certainly knew there would be downsides, but it gave me hope and courage to hear how positive they were in spite of those things. Some members here were waiting for a redo surgery, and yet they were positive and enthusiastic about how it had/would help them and improve their quality of life.

I stuck around for two reasons...to help others the way I had been helped (to "pay it forward") and to continue to communicate with the very good friends I'd made here.

I'm so glad that you both have joined the forum and have stuck around!

Aw shucks,  you are all making me feel warm and fuzzy. Thank you for that.  Joy and Denise always have my back which I just love them for as they have so much knowledge and share so willingly with the members.

I have not had surgery but I know I am not always wrapped really tight on a good day  smhair ................I have A & P, Depression, PTSD, GERD and a few other minor issues.  When I am in a tough situation, I actually visualize all of my H.W. family and remember they are all right here and they care for me. I find that affirmative/positive reinforcement I receive here in this forum to be a blessing.

I love to laugh and have fun so I try to bring smiles to the forum whenever I can.

My MIL is doing well right now so I am very happy she is finding some peace.  She is one awesome 85 year old lady with a lot of class.

Denise -  here is one for you !

Last time I went to the movies I was thrown out for bringing my own food. My argument was that the concession stand prices are outrageous. Besides, I haven’t had a Bar-B-Que in a long time.

Thanks Guys! You just made my day!

I went today with my sister and her family to the pre-4th festival in a local town. Boy, it was so HOT! devil devil devil

I coated myself with sunscreen and took my sunbrella along. I was grabbing shade every chance I could. nono

I was walking along side some teenagers leaning on the wall being loud and boasterous (you know normal). tongue

One boy yelled out at me, "Hey, you know it's not raining!"

Shocked, I stopped in my tracks and turned to him. I stared at him straight in the eyes and said, "Excuse me? But I have Lupus and I'm allergic to the sun." He stared at me with his mouth wide open and closed it with a soft "oh". I turned and walked away. As I walked away I heard one of the girls fussing at him, "What did you say to her?!" smilewinkgrin

When I came back by them later they were all quiet. wink yeah

My sister then took everyone out to eat at the local chinese resturant. Unfortunately their air was out and they were cooling the place with 2 "Swamp coolers" (ice in front of fans). devil

I've had too much heat, sun, and activities today. shakehead

I'm very tired and in pain tonight. smhair

I'm going to rest.

Hi Kitt,

I'm glad to hear you're MIL is doing better. I know you are stretching yourself to your limits, being there for everyone. Please take some time for yourself, so you can be there for your family! Put your feet up and let someone wait on you for a change!

No wonder I had so much trouble with my stomach after my birthday party! yeah
I'll have to keep that in mind next time! yeah

This weekend we're spending time at an LPGA major in the area. My son's girlfriend got us tickets...we went today and are going back tomorrow. It's fun watching the golfers, being outside, and just experiencing the event.

Joy, you'd like it better up here in the north-country! It was overcast and cool...really perfect...not cold, but comfortable. Last year it was 90 degrees and all I wanted to do was find a shade tree to sit under! Hopefully it won't be too hot tomorrow.

The beauty of being a teacher is that you know how to smack-down rude kids! Good for you! I hope you get lots of rest and feel better tomorrow. Here's hoping you get a cool spell so you can enjoy going outside!

I just drop in once in a while, checking to see if people who helped me are still around and it's nice to see so many are so active and still seem so close and caring. I had such a positive experience with everyone here and the reflux is now a non issue. One person I found on the depression site...just sayin....

I saw on another post that your heartburn is gone because you had a Nissen. Aha! Glad we could be of help to you. The people here were great to me when I was going through the surgery. We're glad to help others the way we were helped!

Hey guys, just dropping in for an update.
Lupus is holding steady, some good days, some bad days....
My father was just informed he has a squamous skin cancer on his toe! The doctor says they may have to amputate his next to the last toe. We're still reeling from the news.

I'm trying to determine if this strange cough I keep getting off and on is allergy, Lupus related, or my gerd sneaking back. :(
I'm sniffy also with it so I'm thinking probably allergy.

My internet is touchy lately due to a deterorating phone line under the house. It went off three times today. I'm waiting on it to get repaired soon. So if I'm off any it's because of the wire messing up.

At least the Lupus is holding steady for you. I suppose it could be worse. I hope you're cough gets better. I'm dealing with lots of allergy symptoms, so join the club.

I use every allergy med under the sun, and still have symptoms. I'm a freaking mucous machine during the pollen season! July is my best summer month, as the tree pollen is pretty much over, and the grass, while high, is calming down a bit...and it's before my friend the weed pollens start popping out!

I switched to a new allergist (it took an act of Congress to change docs in this big practice I go to). I was originally going to have to wait until July 25, but bless the allergy nurse...I'm almost out of serum, and she went to my new allergy doc and asked him what he thought. He then moved my allergy appointment to July 11.

Sorry about your dad's toe. Someone I know took her daughter to a dermatologist. The mom was wearing sandals and the dermatologist looked at her feet and discovered that she had a melanoma! It just shows that you have to watch everywhere for skin cancer!

I've had several basal skin cancers and one squamous cell cancer. Lots of sun damage over a lifetime...I also have to get skin checks once a year by the dermatologist.

I hope your father's surgery goes well. I assume they took a biopsy and the cancer was too deep to just remove it. I've had several foot surgeries. He'll heal from the amputation pretty easily in the scheme of things. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your father. Hopefully all will work out good for him. Do keep us posted.

I don't know much about Lupus, but as Denise says, at least it's not worse.

I know it's frustrating getting symptoms and having to wonder what they are from and what is being affected. With the sniffles I'll bet on the allergy as well. :-) I have been blessed with quite a bit of allergy relief since my PCP (new at the time) had me encase all my bedding. My allergies were so bad I have scar tissue in my nasal passages. smhair I took it even further, and told dh I needed leather furniture when it came time to replace the sofa. I spend a lot of time on the sofa too. yeah

I think I am seeing some improvement with my GERD. I have not been waking up refluxing the last 2 mornings and my throat does not seem to be as sore. I've also not had HB for 3 days. (knock on wood) I really can't explain anything that I am doing differently. Maybe, my esophagus healing is causing it to close better now. idea Wishful thinking?


Denise I know that my esophagus is better because I can talk longer before it starts to feel sore. Your story of the use of Carafate was why I asked the GI doc for it, even when I switched docs I had to ask for it. I think it should be standard protocol. Maybe they don't prefer to prescribe because of the aluminum??? I really don't know.

How is everyone else doing?

Hi Sewfun,

I think Carafate is a very old drug, and isn't something a doc may think about right away. My PCP feels it's a great drug, and very benign. He told me it's lucky it works so well for me, as nearly all of it is excreted and very little absorbed.

Glad you found relief with it. As you know, I recommend it highly!

Think of all the aluminum we were getting with all that Maalox and Gavascon, etc. One Carafate dose makes multiple Maalox doses unnecessary. It sticks and stays for hours. I was told that one dose should stick to the esophagus and stomach about 6 hours. Compare that to the short-acting relief you find with ordinary OTC antacids. turn

My father's is having his surgerical evaluation on Tuesday. He has had several basal and squamous cell skin cancers removed over the years due to his many years in the sun growing up on a farm, being a soldier, and doing carpentry work.
He told me that toe has bothered him for over 12 yrs. He thought all this time it was fungus and had taken medicine for it many times.

Yeh, sewfun, I noticed that you live in GA. I'm an hour's drive away from Athens. It's the biggest city near me and where almost all my doctors are.
