6 weeks post-op Nissen... am I on track???

Hello everyone!

I'm 6 wks post op tomorrow for my Nissen surgery (full wrap) I'm able to eat just about anything and have been able to for a few weeks now.  Is that normal?? as long as I chew well and have liquids nearby it goes down... sometimes it will kinda stick for a bit but eventually goes down.  Haven't had a Nexium, TUM, Rolaid, Pepcid AC or anything like that since the surgery.  No nausea.... usually off Nexium I would tend to get nauseous and have terrible pain.  One question I have is I still feel like my esophagus is inflamed and sometimes feel a little burning type feeling... I have removed my bed wedge and mountain of pillows... but still lift the bed slightly at the head.  have been sleeping 'up' for years and it's hard to try it flat!   

I have had tracheal stenosis (narrowing in my breathing tube) since Jan. 2009... the first thoughts were that it was caused by reflux or at least aggravated by it.  I sure hope that WAS the cause because the next step is a tracheal resection!  I'm totally freaked by that.. Google it and look at images!     they can't keep laser dialating my trachea.. it causes more scarring then there is a risk of a permanent trach... I'm crossing fingers and TOES..   hoping it was reflux all along that got the scarring going... I go back to my laryngologist the first week of Aug for a follow up from my last lasering last Feb... my breathing feels a little tight at times so I'm a little nervous.... have had an annoying cough since 2004 and lots of thick mucous... which they 'thought' was reflux but no one ever kept testing.... then the narrowing in my throat started in... ohhhh how I HOPE and PRAY it's  from reflux and with the Nissen will be cured. 

You all are so helpful and kind in here... was just wondering if the slight burning at times is normal in my esophagus after the Nissen... the surgeon told me to stop the Nexium, i don't need it...and that I may feel burning at times but that is normal....  the inflamed feeling just makes me worry that acid is still coming UP and bothering my trachea... I still cough a lot and have mucous issues...   I know 6 wks isn't a long time and I'm still healing... just a bit worried....

Thanks, Joy... I just hope he made the wrap tight enough!  either that or I'm REALLY chewing good....    I've learned to NOT do something else while eating.... I forget and swallow too big of a piece... um..not good!  ;) 

 

I've had to learn that the hard way Joy... :-o have always been a big bite girl and eat quick and swallow big chunks... prob where all my digestive troubles came from.... so hard to change my ways. :)but I'm learning! :)

Thanks Sammi... I am glad to hear you can eat a sandwich, too... I just got a bit nervous reading how others couldn't eat like we do for a couple of months or more... I was shocked in the hosp when they switched me to pain PILLS.. I said.. 'are you sure I can swallow this?' haha they said.. the doc has ordered them instead of the pump.... but they sure stood there and watched me... I now am swallowing my big huge calcium pills with no trouble... but sometimes a bite of food will stick.. so weird.. I have regurged some stuff a couple of times.. i guess if it can't go down it has to go somewhere!! :-o I am at a standstill with the weightloss... even though i eat way less than before the nissen... grrrrr would like to lose more!
