How long ago was your NISSEN?

Hi everyone,

To those who have had successful Nissen fundoplications:  how long ago was your procedure and are you still symptom-free?  I enjoy success stories while going through this.

4 and a bit months for me. Feel great apart from not being able to burp that well. But on a very big plus.. no reflux!!!

well my firsst was 3 years, but it was done wrong. Had a redo 2 years ago in may and it was awesome. Absolutely perfect until I had a torn esophagus and they had to put a stent through the wrap and wrecked it. I am hoping to have a redo of the redo date after my 8/17 appointment.

I had mine in December 2001. My GERD caused asthma-like symptons. I never really felt heartburn even though I would wake up in the middle of the night, from time to time, choking on acid that had made it all the way up the esophagus to my lungs. So far, none of these symptoms have returned. But, I do now suffer from esophageal spams. No one knows for sure what causes these spasm or if they are related to the wrap. They are no fun as they mimic heart attack symptoms. My GERD was very bad so I had no choice as none of the medications controlled it. But, would I do it again if it can be proven that it causes my current esophageal spasms? Probably not!

Had my surgery December 2009. Feeling great and would go through it again if ever needed. Well worth it.

Had my surgeon 6 weeks ago & doing great. Just returned to work yesterday. Had GERD/Hiatus hernia which also caused asthma-like symptoms. Have had no acid reflux or shortness of breath since & have not taken any PPI's or used an inhaler since the morning of my surgery.

Would I do it again if needed. Yes in a heartbeat. Well worth it.

My surgery was done on August 1 of this year. I'm still recuperating but the acid is gone. I'm one of the "old folks" on this forum so I had reflux beginning about 30 years ago.

Since my surgery was so recent and I'm still very swollen the best thing I can say about it now is that the acid is gone. But, when I do think back about waking up FROM so much acid every single morning for the past three years I can say, through my post-op pain, that I'd do it again.

I'm not able to take pain medication because it causes so much nausea so that is complicating my healing.

I'll be better soon.

2.5 wks ago. Recovery is a bit tough for 1st 2 wks but I'm improving now. I had a lot of problems with chronic coughing before surgery and that has decreased but I still cough a bit everyday.

Will the coughing eventually go away or will I still cough a bit everyday??
