I haven't had any time to spend much on the forum, but I pop on once in a while.  I'm so sorry to hear that your husband is in the hospital.  I hope he is doing well, and improving quickly.  I know it's no fun.  I've been there for asthma.  You just try to take it easy, and try not to wear yourself out too much.

You know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your hubby.

Hi ya....There is a new member Gettysyork who has been diagnosed with ARDS and has some issues that sound like gerd. Not sure if you have heard of ARDS, but I haven't until the last couple days. It's Acute Respiratory Distress syndrome. I plan on doing more research because it may be something Michelle has and I wonder if you may have been in this category as bad as reflux messed with your lungs. They put Gettysyork on nexium right away, so I figure they are looking at it being reflux caused.

I hope you will be able to respond to our new member since you may be able offer some experiences you two have in common.

Joy- Hope you are doing better and wonder if you are able to respond to Gettysyork since you had lung issues also before from reflux.

Hello my friend (((hugs))) I hope hubby is getting better. He sounds a lot like me, stubborn and doesn't want to see the doctor. Please tell him I am praying and hoping he gets to feeling better very soon. I also hope you do not wear yourself out as Denise does. You need to keep your strength up so you will be able to take care of him and to take care of you too. I am praying this isn't to stressful for you my friend. I hope you are able to keep the stinkin feelings away. We are here for you any time you need us.

Sorry to hear your husband is sick in the hospital, Kitt. Healing thoughts being sent. You try to not overdo it, too.

I've been sick. I've been having some kidney issues from the Lupus so I've been extra tired. I've hadn't had much time to be online to talk with other here.
I'll try to check in on the guy with ARDs, Bill.

The ARDS is something I have never heard of before. From what I have read it usually occurs in people who are very ill with another disease or who have major injuries. Most people are already in the hospital when they develop ARDS. ARDS leads to a buildup of fluid in the air sacs. This fluid prevents enough oxygen from passing into the bloodstream. There are several sites that give you not only definitions for ARDS but description and symptoms of the disease.

I do hope that Michelle is doing better. Please let her know that my prayers are with you both for a healthy tomorrow.

Hope that dang lupus backs of soon. So many bad symptoms with that disease.

I read the same info about the sacs filling with fluid and usually being already in the hospital or had a major injury too.

Had a bit of an accident tonite. I had to get to the bathroom fairly quickly around midnight, from the bad side effects of newly redone nissen and lack of gallbladder. think you all can guess for yourself with those clues. Anyway, I was in a hurry and since I take serequel at night to help me sleep I was a bit unstable and my Aussie who is dark brown was laying in an unusual spot and I tripped over him and managed to hit the door right on the open edge and ended up on the floor half in and half out of the bedroom. Now my right ankle and knee are hurting and left hand too. Also managed to involve my right side ribs that are troublesome from nerve damage and tweeked my ribs at my sternum on my left side. The left ribs had just started to feel like they were tightened up after the esophagus surgery, but now I am sure they are loose again due to the pain in my sternum, right where my incision is too.

I figure I am not supposed to have lesser pain for a while longer. Got to get back into the surgeon and get the injections in my ribs again now. Oh well it's almost the 2 month mark and were starting to bug me anyway.

enough whining, hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hello to Everyone and thank you for being here.  Hubby came home this afternoon and we are just waiting for the Home Care company to deliver his nebulization machine.  Bill,  I did pretty good staying in the moment.

I try not to overthink, however, my hubby had a 2-D Echo Test of his heart which came back abnormal much to the Drs. suprise and my own.  It may be connected to the pneumonia which was in both lungs and his heart rhythm was acting up on Wednesday but settled down once he started to respond to treatment. He will be scheduled for a stress test once he gets well past the pneumonia.

I promise to be here tomorrow and respond to everyone as you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Kitt, I just read about your husband's health problems and I'm sending my best wishes and prayers for a sure and complete recovery.

It's always difficult times when someone we love and care about is having problems and I know how happy you are to be there for him and how grateful he is to have you there.

I've learned this lesson during recent days with my husband being there so faithfully for me when I've been under the weather.

Take care of yourself too.

I am so happy to hear that Hubby is home and You stayed in the moment :-) . With the modern medicines and breathing aids Hubby will be back on his feet in no time.

I am so sorry that you are experiencing one thing after another as you try to recover. Please take it easy and let us know how you are doing. I realize that you are a young man and you are , in spite of the surgeries you have had) relatively healthy. But maybe with you taking the serequel, maybe you should think about keeping a nite time cane by your bedside ,, just a thought.. might help keep a little steadier on your feet.. . I really hate hearing that you have come up against misfortune once again.. Take care of you and Michelle...

Hi Kitt,

Glad to hear your husband is home.  Hopefully after he is healed all will be well with his heart. I always get a funny echocardiogram because of my asthma.  Every time I've had one before surgery, I had to get it done again with my PCP who is familiar with my results.  Apparently lungs can press against the heart in some way, and asthma sufferers can have a funny wave. yeah

Sorry about your fall.  Believe me, I understand the feeling.  On our vacation I got up to go to the bathroom and bumped into the bottom of the bed, tearing my (thin due to steroids) skin on my leg.  I bled everywhere and had to do first aid with steri strips to place the skin back where it was meant to be.

Don't we take shortcuts so we don't disturb others?  Both of us should either use a flashlight or turn on a light!

I certainly hope that you recover quickly!

I have been having back trouble which keeps me from spending as much time on the computer.  Hence the fact that I've been MIA around here.  I do keep busy between helping my son who teaches third grade...I go in to his room once a week and do a lot of things for him at home as well.  I also prepare for and tutor one day a week.  On top of that, our sweet little grandson spends two full days with us every week.  I suspect that his little 22 pounds of love have been a bit hard on my back.  I'm going to go to PT to get some exercises and try to get back to normal.  I have had a herniated disk and I don't want to go there again!

Very good news that your hubby is home. Praying the abnormal test is just because of the stress from the pneumonia and goes away once his lungs are healed.

Joy-
Hoping you are starting to feel better and find something to keep the Lupus symptoms at bay. I see you go through almost the exact same symptoms as my niece has since she was diagnosed about 3 years ago. She had been falsely dx with several other diseases before they finally did a different test for Lupus and it came back positive. Try to be strong my friend. We understand if you just don't have the strength or time to stop by here.

I suppose I am a young man. I feel like I am still 18 in my mind, but some times my body feels like I'm 80. I am half that, but between how reckless I was in my teens and 20's to go with all these dang surgeries it's taking a huge toll on my body for sure,

My PTSD has been really severe the last few days. Reliving so many things that I was in or saw while in the Navy. Waking up sweating and out off breath and it takes a minute or so to realize where I am. The dreams seem so real, the smells and sounds are so vivid. Hearing the screams of people around me who were hurt and the smell of JP-5 burning from the exhaust and the smell of the leaking hydraulic fluid in the helos. Remembering the injured soldiers we helped medivac to the hospital ship.
I do have dreams of the good things from time to time, but they always turn to something negative.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I admire you. You have a family and wife that you obviously love and they love you. You have made it through many surgeries and trials and you have come out frustrated by some elated by others but always optimistic. I can only pray that one day you will have only good dreams and they will all come out on the side of the Rainbows..

You wondered at one time why we say that you are an inspiration, I am here to tell you..

I am almost 63 years old and I have never wakened from a sound sleep, having a nightmare that was based in reality. You have had that experience, you have lived through the reality and you still have the heart and caring and compassion to come here, give of yourself, and help others with such generosity...

I feel that I know you well enough to say I'm glad you are a part of my family of friends. I am blessed to have found this forum and you and Kitt and Denise and Joy, and all of the others who come here and help so many through so much.
There I go again.... mush.. but said in truth..

Thanks, We all try to do the best we can as you have also. Some days I find it hard to find the right words and don't post anything. Sometimes new members who don't get responses right away feel they aren't welcome, usually the members who have read their post just don't have any experience with what they are asking or just can't find the right words at the time.
As more members, like you, who are willing to open up and lend a helping hand the wider our experience is and the more likely the new members will get a response. So I thank you again for jumping in with both feet, it makes this forum even better.

I did a bad thing tonight....Michelle bought a small can of honey roasted peanuts and I ate the whole can. I just couldn't stop. I love those things, but they don't like me very much. They go right though me like lettuce does. Oh well, that's what I have imodium for. LOL!

Hi Bill,

Sometimes we eat things we know will cause problems just because we enjoy them and decide to go against the grain!  When that happens we just face up to the fact and live through the ramifications with the happy memory of how we got there!  Sometimes it's just worth it.  So remember those delicious peanuts and revel in that tasty memory!

I second Sandi's comments about what a special friend you are!

I also second your comments of appreciation for all the help Sandi gives others here!

Hey Bill

Tell me where you have found Imodium???? I have looked everywhere her in our town (FL) and they say that they cannot get it.. I could use some right now.. I have had a bit of a problem ..ahem.. the last several days.. I am ok though, it is just annoying.. Is it unusual to experience dumping this far into recovery?? no pain or anything and just as it was early in my recovery.. just went back to mild foods and soups for a few days. It is better after going back to soft for a few.

Denise, Bill, thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. I feel good knowing that I can try to give back what you all so generously gave me when I was hurting and scared and didn't know what was normal and what was not.

My granddaughter turns 3 on the 8th.. Mamaw and Papaw not only sent tickets for Disney on Ice(so she can see her Princess's), but we sent her a Tangled dress and slippers.. NO she isn't spoiled.. just well loved ;-) I wish I could be there...:-(

I get mine at WalMart, their store brand since it;s cheaper and works just as well. Yes it's quite normal to experience dumping at your time in recovery. I still had it once in a while after a year. Seemed like I never could figure out exactly what foods would set if off except I know nuts did. Didn't stop me from eating them though. I just knew I would have a bad couples days after eating them. LOL!

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to drop in and let you know my lupus is still kicking my butt. I developed another severe UTI. I think I passed a stone. I've spent the last three days in the bathroom with severe spasms and pain. This is the longest I've been able to stay away from the bathroom and the urge is hitting me again.

Hi Joy,

UTI's are a bummer.  I'm so sorry you're struggling this way.  I used to get them pretty much nonstop when I was younger, and hadn't had one for many years.  When I got it, the memories/pain all came flooding back.

I hope you feel better soon!

I was able to sleep last night with only four bathroom runs! Yippppee! That means I should be feeling better today.
The worse part of this bugger was I was so nauseous with it I couldn't eat. I had to force myself to eat something so I could take all my medicines that said to take with foods. I had two throwing up attacks, but my stomach was empty at the time thank goodness.

Getting better slowly.

Joy,  Ouch,  I am so sorry you are having problems and I can picture you running to the bathroom.  It is a horrible feeling and then to have a kidney stone to top it all off.  Sorry is to small of a word as I have seen patients writhing in agony with kidney stones.  Kidney stones are so nasty that they bring big strong men to their knees in tears from the pain.  I wish I good send more then love and support.  Glad to read that last night was somewhat better.  You are on my mind and in my heart dear Joy !

Denise,   School Crafts sound like fun.  Perhaps I should go back to school.  Wouldn't the kids have a good giggle with me in their class ?

Kitt, It's been a miserable four days. I'm still not fully well, but it's feeling like there is less pressure today. I'm glad the stone passed so I can feel some pain relief. From what I've read I'm probably going to have more of these wonderful things in my future.

Joy, I sympathise, poor you! Have chronic bladder pain (tho now they are saying it's not interstitial cystitis) - luckily mine's much more liveable these days, but results from past infections. Have you heard of D-mannose? Supposed to be good for infections including resistant strains. You may have already tried it, but if not have a look at it (website in the uk is called Waterfall) but I think other places sell it.
