Hi efit,I had my surgery in February 2009, and have resumed totally normal eating and activity. My lungs (which had been in terrible shape due to reflux) are healthy, and my peak flow is the best it has been in years. I still have allergies, and even with those my lungs remain clear and for that I am very grateful.
I struggled not to have the surgery for over four years. My family doc and asthma docs were very insistent that I ought to consider it, and like you, I resisted due to the fear that the surgery might create problems even worse than the ones I was experiencing. I only wish I'd found this forum sooner. I might have avoided terrible and permanent side effects caused by the high doses of steroids I needed to keep my lungs somewhat functional.
I would recommend that you keep an open mind about the surgical option if your symptoms are creating substantial problems in your life. If you're anything like me, the only thing you'll regret is waiting so long.
Yes...I would have no trouble bouncing in a a bounce house (other than those that are age-related ) , and I wouldn't hesitate to ride any crazy ride that was available. (Well, maybe I'd think twice about some of them, but that hasn't changed due to surgery!)
Good luck!
Denise
