26 Days Post Op - Is Jaw pain normal?

Hi All,

I'm 26 days post op and starting to eat normal food now and am chewing small amounts until very fine before swallowing BUT today I woke up with a lump just under my left ear and tingling down the left of my jaw. The lump is quite big and a bit sore at the bottom but when I chew it seems to be like pins and needles and the lump gets bigger after chewing... any ideas??? My ear isn't sore so I don't think it's an infection but it's a bit worrying - it's been like this all day

Hi Donna,

Your symptoms are new to me.  I don't believe I've ever heard of that reaction.  I wouldn't say it's typical.  Have you called your surgeon or PCP about it?  I think it would be wise to have someone look at it and see what they think. 

Be sure to let us know what you find out!

Your symptoms are very familiar to me, if this condition continue to exist you might need to see a dentist and clarify if you have transit bruxism (teeth clenching  or grinding) I would imagine this may came by due to the stress after surgery or something like that, I might be wrong too…….

Thank you Denise and Khalid,

The nurse thinks it's a blocked saliva gland - I have antibiotics to take for a week and if that doesn't help then I have to go back to see the GP.

I have a checkup with the dentist next week as well

Donna I typed the same response last night to let you know that I thought it was a blocked saliva gland. My computer crashed. My girlfriend had the same problem. Her doctor gave her antibotics. What would help is if you suck on a lemon or lime, if you noticed, if you ever think of a lemon or lime or sour candy, your glad starts to release saliva. This will help to unblock the saliva gland.
