I had my Nissen on 11/22. I am doing great, I couldn't be happier with the results. I've said it quite a bit on here, this surgery has changed my life. The last couple of years have been hell.
I'm back to eating everything, meat, bread, and foods I could never eat before. Only problem now is I am starting to gain weight since I can eat anything. I've gone a little crazy enjoying all of the foods I haven't been able to eat for years.
A couple of my symptoms were LPR symptoms (though I was never officially diagnosed with it, the term was thrown around quite a bit). Globus sensation and excess mucus in the throat. Those issues took a while to decrease (as the surgeon explained), now at 2 months out, I'd say they are 75% better. Most of the time I don't notice it. I am confident that in time they'll be completely gone.
Other symptom was classic GERD chest pain, constant pain all day long. That cleared up very quickly.
You'll read lots of negative stories online, but like with anything, people who are enjoying the benefits of the surgery are not online talking about
it. They are too busy out enjoying their new lease on life! Its great that there are a number of folks who had positive experiences with the Nissen stay around here to share their stories.
Also, I've read every Nissen related post for about
3 months. You see a trend with almost every single case. The first few weeks are rough. You even have thoughts of regret. The diet sucks. The pain is no fun. The recovery is slow, and you feel countless odd sensations while your body tries to figure out what the heck happened. But, over time the posts become more positive, people are eating more, pain is decreasing, energy is returning. You finally realize, Denise (who is amazing on here) and everyone was right, things get better!
Hope this helps,
Tony
