Hey guys I am on medication for Gastritis, its helps alot but I still get sore from time to time. So I researched ways to heal the stomach lining and I came across this site
http://www.fitesten.com/en/the-action-of-fitesten.html, it seemed promising however I can't seem to buy this product on the site, even Online sites and Ebay! Can any one help me track this down?

I've seen a similar product called Siberian pine nut oil - it's very expensive and I didn't try it. The best thing to do is to email the Fitesten people and ask them where their stockists are. You could also try googling "pine needle extract" and seeing if there are any similar preparations available in your country.

This is just an example of what could be the same thing - I searched for pine needle oil. Mostly it seems to come as an aromatherapy oil (not for swallowing) so be careful what you get! This Korean one is capsules to ingest - I'm not recommending it, just pointing out that it may be the same thing. It certainly carries the same warnings about the possibility of flushing out gall stones (if you have them), so my guess is it's the same stuff.

If you can afford it, let us know how it goes!

Maybe this isn't something you want to consider, but Pepto Bismol is an effective product for gastritis. It coats the stomach, protecting it from acid, it is what my doctor first recommended. I prefer the chewable tabs over drinking the pink chalky stuff. I use this when I know I will probably eat something I shouldn't (going out for a meal). I also eat yogurt daily, which contains probiotics. My throat symptoms are vastly better, but my stomach never feels quite right.

The ingredient in Pepto Bismol I think has more proven effectiveness.

I don't think it's a scam, but I do think it's costly. I'm always game for trying natural products because I have had training in naturopathy - but I do always do a lot of research first. I think if you're going to try something new it's good to try only one thing at a time and keep a symptom diary to help you track any changes (good or bad) - you can keep notes on other things that might affect your symptoms too.

Sunbeam, is Peptobismol very different to Gaviscon? I use chewable Gaviscon but it doesn't make a lot of difference to things.

MMM, they work differently.  The ingredients in Pepto Bismol protect the stomach by coating it.  Gaviscon neutralizes the acid.  Pepto Bismol would be more like an OTC version of carafate.

Thanks Sunbeam. I haven't tried it as the docs here take a dim view of using anything alongside the ppis and the pharmacist counter ladies cross examine you for everything you buy! Some of the bigger supermarkets sell stuff like that without policing it, so I'll have a look!

But Gaviscon in liquid form coats the stomach as well, what is the difference to Bismol?

Gaviscon is a foaming agent.  It  works by covering your stomach contents with foam to prevent reflux.

In addition to the acid-neutralizing ingredients found in most antacids, over-the-counter Gaviscon contains alginic acid and sodium bicarbonate. When taken as directed, GlaxoSmithKline, the drug's manufacturer, states the combination of the alginic acid and bicarbonate will create a a foam barrier which floats on the stomach acid. This barrier may help reduce the number of reflux episodes and may provide longer lasting action against heartburn.  

Pepto-Bismol is an antacid, meaning that it buffers excess stomach acid. The precise reason Pepto-Bismol relieves heartburn remains unknown according to the info I have read.  One theory holds that the active ingredient in Pepto-Bismol, bismuth subsalicylate, coats the linings of the stomach and esophagus to reduce irritation from acid.

My opinion - try one of the products if you choose to and see how it works for you.

Thanks Kitt, it seems Pepto Bismol in liquid form contains Salicylic acid so i can't take that as i am allergic against it.

Hi all-

I used to take pepto a lot as a kid. I tried the chewable pepto tablets a couple years ago and those things tasted so nasty! actually seemed to burn a bit too. I know this isn't helpful, but just wanted to let anyone who was thinking of the pepto chewables that they tasted nasty to me.
