Two days pot-op now.

As long as I do not move am feeling pretty good. I had no nausea and am able to stick to the liquid diet, since I have no appetite. However I keep falling asleep. My surgeon said that I could start on mushy foods tomorrow. My key symptoms now are pain!!! As soon as I try to get out of bed, or a chair or go to lie down, I am having excruciating pain. An ice-pack a little but. as does the meds.

Thanks. It was bad last night, that I got up at 3 AM to take more meds.

I hope you feel better. My surgeon told me to take the meds in advance to prevent future pain. I believe getting good rest is key during this period. For the first few days, I had a hard time bending down and getting up. It's better now but I still have to be cautious.

Everybody reacts differently to pain.  In addition, when our surgeons root around in there, I'm sure they don't all do things exactly the same.  A pulling stitch, unique swelling patterns, etc...there are so many things that can cause some to have more pain than others.

Still, it will all calm down once you've had a little more recovery time under your belt.

Have you contacted your surgeon's office and let them know that your pain med isn't sufficient fo the pain you're experiencing?  I remember in the hospital they switched me off IV meds to oral so they'd know whether or not it would handle the pain before I headed for home.

You shouldn't be a lot of pain (a little, sure).  You sound like your pain level is too high.  When you call your surgeon, try to think of a 0-10 pain level chart and give them your perception of where you are on that continnum.

My pain script is for 1-2 tablets- 4-6 hrs. I have been trying to manage with just one tablet so far. When it gets closer to the 4 hrs, I can really feel my pain increase. I am reluctant to take too much medication because after I had surgery for a spinal fusion 4-5 yrs ago, it left me with a morphine addiction which was not easy to overcome.

I got percocet( which I think is the same thing-different dose) as to what you were taking.

I asked my doc for nausea meds and he swore that he NEVER had a patient who suffered from nausea. Of course, today I am nauseous, hope having some breakfast will help. It is hard to get exercise, both given cold weather and how painful ti is even for a short walk back and forth in my living room. Lying in bed is the most pain-free.

After 3 days, he already put me on a semi-solid diet.
