How to heal quickly from lap. nissen fundo surgery?

Would like to know what I should do to recover from lap nissen fundo. Stomach area burns when exerting like getting up or down out of bed, laughing, coughing etc. Or is it just a matter of time.

You didn't say how long post-op you are, but in any case, you can't do anything to hurry your recovery.  It will happen when it happens.  It takes a full six months for the majority of healing, and a full year for the remainder. 

With time those things will improve.

Hi, Kiwee, It sounds like you're about 3 days post op. For the next week or so it'll be tough but I found each day I felt a lot better. One thing that helped me was having lots of pillows around to keep me comfortable (and for sneezing, coughing) . I kept a small pillow in the car to protect my stomach area. Heat helps too. I had a rechargeable hot water bottle which was a real comfort. By 2 weeks you'll feel much better. It takes a long time to heal everything on the inside. You should limit your exercising to just walking for now. Any strain or lifting will not be good for your wrap or incisions.

Good call Starry, 3days today post op. This is 2nd time around, original was 1999. All stitches came undone. No problem with food, of course using common sense. Guess there is no quick heal, only time?

I am meeting with surgeons next month to discuss surgery options.  Anything you can tell me about your experience with Nissen Fundoplication for GERD would be appreciated.  Just wondering how long recovery takes?  How long to return to work/driving.  I work in an office and sit at a desk mostly.  I've read it takes 2 to 3 weeks to eat food, first 3 weeks are liquids.  How long before you feel like yourself again and eat regular food.  Thanks for any replies.

Welcome to Healing Well!  Glad you've joined us.  This is a great place for anyone who's either contemplating a Nissen or recovering from one.  Three years ago I had my Nissen and was very thankful to receive the support and guidance from more experienced "wrappers".

Thank you, Dencha, so much for your story about the procedure.  I am 48 year old female who has never had any type of surgery and this is my first experience needing it so your comments definitely helped and put a lot of my anxieties at ease to have such a thorough journal.
