Hi Mel,Welcome to Healing Well Wrapped Club! I had the surgery three years ago, and can speak to some of the issues you're worried about. First...don't worry! You're in the beginning stages of recovery, and it will take time for your healing to occur and solve these issues.
First, feeling full after only a little food is TOTALLY normal. The top of your stomach (the fundus) has been wrapped around the esophagus and stitched. That is that part of your stomach senses fullness, and it's swollen because of the surgery. My surgeon told me that the swelling is interpreted by the brain as fullness, which is why you're not hungry.
Tell your dietician that it's NORMAL to lose weight during this recovery. You just can't eat much until the swelling subsides and your stomach fundus can again interpret fullness properly. You will be eating normally again. it just takes time..
Just remember that your insides have undergone a huge revision, and your upper GI tract has been through a lot. Your outsides will heal much more quickly than your insides.
Does your gurgling accompany very loose stools? I got very, very loud gurgling that was accompanied by diarrhea...that's "dumping syndrome", which is another normal side effect of the surgery.
At times the gurgling noise was very loud and embarrassing, but sometime a little while past the year mark it stopped completely. This recovery is long-term, so you have to be very patient.
If you can relax into the recovery and follow it where it goes, you'll be able to handle it a lot better. Surrender...just let it happen. This recovery takes 6 months for most of the healing and a full year for there rest.
Sorry it took so long to get a response! Keep those questions coming.
Happy Healing!
