Anyone have a gastrostomy after fundoplication?

Unable to sleep- having surgery for paraesophageal hiatal hernia with wrap on Feb.29th. Paperwork from insurance company received today says they have given approval for hernia repair and gastrostomy. In all my reading on this forum (lots of great info), I have not seen gastrostomy mentioned. I am talking to surgeon again tomorrow but wonder if anyone has had this. Help!!!! This is something I really don't want to go through. I don't have many symptoms- have been on prevacid and omeprazole for 10 years or so. Took care of most of my problems but my hernia has gotten larger and now 1/3 of stomach is in chest. Any info is appreciated!

i am having trouble navigating chats etc. not use to using computer for social stuff. just use for work and basics. But by time you read this you may be over your surgery. i too am having this surgery in april. same with gtube placement , only my doc. is keeping gtube in place for 8 weeks to form internal fibrin around sutures that will hold my stomach down in my abd. cavity to minimize need for future revisions. surgeon and gi doc both assure me that burping and vomiting will be resumed if i feel the urge. but if i ever vomit it will be very much projectile type. i am a registered nurse and have suffered with gerds and hernia since 1987. i too am nervous, any surgery like this is major stuff. wish you all well. i am also anemic.

Hi, mintpepper! I'm wondering why a g-tube. I had a paraesophageal hernia repaired in December with lap NF. I could burp in hospital. I was on soft foods for a while but was eating pretty normally within 3 weeks. Most of the time I've heard of g-tubes being used with this surgery is when infants are involved. I don't know a lot about it though.
