Hi Rsarj,
This is just my opinion but the first thing I would do is find another physician if this one acts put upon because you ask questions. I had GERD and hiatel hernia and did have Nissen but only after interviewing three surgeons. I turned out to be allergic to omeprazole (my hands broke out in bloody blisters). Also, be aware that the entire family of proton pump inhibitors are not meant to be a long term solution to GERD. I found this out only after being off and on for nearly five years. In terms of diet, I had to give up spicy, greasy, citrus, processed foods, coffee, chocolate and soft drinks. After all of that, unfortunately my symptoms persisted. I was diagnosed with esophagitis and hiatel hernia, had Nissen earlier this week and I feel better than I have in years. I wish you good health!
