2nd dialation of Nissen within 2 weeks. I'm done

Clearly this surgical procedure was not for me. I had my wrap dialated last week because I was choking and couldn't get food down. It did ok for a few days and just yesterday the same thing happened. I had to have it redialated today.

I'm done. I shouldn't of done this surgery in the first place. I will be speaking to my surgeon to have it taken down. They told me in some cases these wraps simply don't work out for people. What else am I supposed to do?? I had my surgery dec 8 of last year. They said they could inject Botox into it? How would that help? I'm done. I don't want anymore

Hi Nal,

I can't blame you one bit for feeling that way.  I'm sorry that you've not gotten any relief.  I'm interested...did you have a manometry before surgery?  Did you have normal swallowing?  Does the surgeon just think it was done too tightly?   

Did you surgeon have lots of experiencing doing these procedures?

Lots of questions...just trying to figure out the weak link...

Again, you have my sincere sympathy.

They never did a motility test. My surgeon on average does about 4 a month. I had a swallowing test done years ago and it was fine. Idk what else to do

What does your surgeon think is going on?  He must have an opinion.

He's been out of town. I don't think he cares anymore. However I did send him a message today so well see what he says

I am so sorry to read of your problems and I understand how you must be feeling.  I believe you have a right to feel very disappointed and I have to agree with Denise - look at getting a second opinion about what is going on with you ?

Not doing a motility test because you had one years ago that was fine does not make sense to me but hey that is just me.  I am not a doctor.

Keep talking with us as well. There is 100% acceptance and support here from those who understand.

You're only 3 months out of surgery. It's early, even though it seems like forever.

I had a fairly tight wrap (for me) for several months, was on soft foods at 3 months. I wouldn't give up just yet. Messing with the wrap, dilating it, could be causing more swelling which may go down with time.

I know it's not fun to choke on food. Been there. Are you trying to eat regular food now? I couldn't eat beef for a year, actually can't tolerate it much after 2 1/2 years. I still avoid swallowing large pieces of food or anything sticky or rough to the esophagus. But I'd not like to go back to where I was!

Nal don't worry, your problem most likely has a solution.

Botox paralyses muscle. It reduces tightness of forehead muscles hence less wrinkles and it reduces tightness of muscles around tubes in the GI tract. It's usually injected in the pylorus for gastroparesis. Did they tell you where they're considering injecting it in you? If you do get it, could you tell them to leave a bit for me, for my face, thanks.

Failing that, if your Nissen is too tight, I can't see why you can't have it re-done, which should hopefully solve your problem.

Hi Nal,

I was choking untill week 10, but since that I havent felt it. I just wanted to let you know that is not totally out of the ordinary for us to experience this a while after surgery.

I did contact my new GI dr. I guess they do the Botox injections into the esophagus to stop the spasms that I'm having. She noticed those while doing my endoscopy yesterday. She didn't inject Botox then because we did t get a chance to discuss it first

However I am still waiting to hear from my surgeon to see if he just wants to do the wrap all over, undo it or do more testing

I also wanted to mention that the feeling in my throat and chest is severe burning and chest tightness. Much worse than b4 I had the surgery. However my whole GI system is out if whack right now so who knows. I see my regular dr on monday only to see if she may have someone to recommend for a second opinion.

Thanks everyone for helping. Imbreally trying but this is so frustrating
