I may have cracked the code: a neutral alcoholic drink

Hi everyone,

I have been posting a lot recently beacuse the last few weeks have been challanging for me as it has gotten closer to my wedding. Because I am a beer lover, my finace, who brews his own beer, has been trying to make an alkaline beer for me. His first attempt the beer was too alkaline to drink (we tested it with our PH meter). An idea popped in my head recently and it could work. There are PH alkaline drops (or alkaline water) you can add to water which can increase the PH level of water which is neutral. I am thinking if you add the PH drops to water to increase the PH and then add a shot of liquor which is obviously acidic, it may end up being a neutral alcoholic drink. Will it be tasty, probably not but for socialization, it could work. I will report back as I am awaiting the PH drops from amazon.com. For those of you who miss the occasional cocktail, I may be on to something.

I am not sure. He is still working on the beer thing, but the beer may be an issue still because it is a carbohydrate which is hard to break down and often requires more stomach acid to break down. But an alkaline beer would be better. I am experimenting with increasing the ph of water and adding a liquor. Less carbs and it may be easier to do. I will keep everyone posted. I can tolerate 2-3 beers every so often but I would like to make it easier. I don't need to drink all the time but it has hindered my social life.

Did you know that most beers have Gluten in them?

Did you ever try a GLuten-free beer to see if it doesn't give you the GERD symptoms while drinking it? They do make them.

I wonder if it isn't the gluten that might be a contributing factor to GERD.

Yes I can agree on that one I love my Dortios too I have had a hernia repair done jan 11th 2012 and since then I have still avoid food they irrate the stomach like spicy foods and even after the op I still get a bit of heartburn. I actually love a Barcadri Breezer I bought5 one just this past weekend had two drinks and felt ok.

I'm glad your wedding went well! I find that if I'm really good for a while (around a week) I can slip in some junk every now and then. Only about one serving, but it satisfies the craving without leaving me in pain. Otherwise I follow a bland vegan diet.

Also, about the alcoholic drinks - I went out for my bestie's birthday on Friday night and had 3 glasses of brut champagne. I did burp a few times, but besides that I felt absolutely fine. I drank a glass of water between glasses of champagne, got a fantastic buzz, and had a great time. My tummy is very sensitive and I'm very pleasantly surprised at the experience.

Be warned, though - this was my first drink in a year and I had the world's worst hangover the next day. I mean it was worse than hangovers I'd had pre-reflux when I was drinking like I was going for a world record.
