deep confusion, hiatal hernia re-do???? help.

Hey guys, bassically i have had all the tests done Endoscopy, bravo study, barium swallow but according to these tests my hiatal hernia surgery is still in tact. HOWEVER, all the symptoms are back and I am regurigitating and having deep belches unlinke before when the surgery was working, oh and of course the dreaded burning sensation is back as well and it hurts a ton. This is all abosultelty terrible and i have lost about 15 pounds. The doctors keep giving me the run around, or of course say its all in my head. That would be right if the pervious surgery didn't keep me out of pain for 4 years and worked pretty darn good, I'm in need of answers.


------Essentially its not doing its job anymore it feels looser, but I can't seem to prove it everything easily comes back up now. I'm in need of answers here any surgeons or extreme specialty groups that deal with this unique issue?? Please help!

Hey Cmac,

I haven't had the surgery, but from my perspective, you might want to go make a symptom list and diary (what you eat, how you feel, etc) and present it calmly to your doctor. This way, you are showing concrete evidence of when and where you are feeling pain without any "subjective" details.

I too have been dismissed by doctors, telling me to "see if the medication works" while suffering for 6 months. When I presented my diary, however, he pored over it for about 5 minutes and referred me out. I didn't have the objective part down (I was crying quite heavily at the time) but he could see that I was serious and that I really needed help. Maybe your doctor needs to see that too?

Please don't misinterpret me by thinking that I think you're doing something wrong - I don't, at all. I think that doctors are like any other people and become used to hearing complaints all day and maybe become a little unintentionally callous. I am also not saying anything bad about doctors :)

A lot of us here tell members to advocate for themselves. It's a great thing to remember. I myself have walked out of many doctor appointments feeling dissatisfied that I hadn't made my point or that I wasn't heard, but I didn't want to "bother" the doctor. It takes practice :)

Yeah, I know veggie juice makes it act up and boost nutrition shakes seems to do a number on it, and whole milke, but skim milk seems to be ok. You see I'm not sure what to do since I'm loosing a lot of weight also and having trouble eating. how am i suppose to get easy calories without dairy or something?? Man, this is real tough.

It is, I know. Maybe try good fats (avocados, EVOO, fish) to get some nutrition into your diet?

Anybody know of any expert that deals with out of the ordinary nissen problems? I mean It seems so simple to me 1. Functioning gerd wrap held stuff down and stopped burping and regurgitation, and heartburn. 2. Compromised gerd wrap lets everything come back up no holds barred...I mean darn.
