Feelin of lump in throat and constant discomfort

I have dealt with reflux for many years, but my most current symptoms are new to me. For a couple of months, I have felt that there is something in my throat. Hurts to swallow, but not in a strep throat or sore throat from a cold sorta way. It is hard to explain, but it just doesn't feel like pain from irritation. My reflux medications do not seem to have any affect on it. I have tried sleeping on an incline, but nothing seems to help it.

I have been to a ENT Dr. and a gastrointestinal Dr. Both claim that it is something that I need to see the other for. I have had a upper endoscopy which revealed minor irritation, but nothing unreasonable. I have also had a barium swallow, which revealed moderate reflux. I have had a throat CT and chest xray, both of which were okay.

I have been told that I have a small hiatal hernia.

I just don't feel like this is reflux, but the ENT insists. He says that my esophagus everything surrounding are red and swollen. He prescribed me anti inflammatory medications, which did nothing. I am absolutely miserable. I feel like my breathing is affected and it hurts every single day. Has anyone experienced anything like this??

I had the same problem, in fact that's how I was diagnosed... I had problems swallowing because it hurt and it felt as though I had a lump - I didn't have any other symptoms at all which is why I was surprised when I was diagnosed with a very small hiatus hernia and acid reflux - I didn't even feel the acid.

Was put on PPI's for a year but in that year my reflux went from mild to very severe GERD and the hernia grew by 5cm's and I was diagnosed with Barretts Esophagus and had the Nissen Fundo op last November.

Thanks for the replies. I have been on a number of reflux medications. Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec... Name it, I have probably been on it at one point or another. They definitely relieve the heartburn issues.. When taking any of them, I very very rarely have heartburn. These new symptoms are unaffected by the medications though... Is this common with LPR ??

Try chewing gum, my throat has not been tight since I starting chewing non mint gum constantly. And following a diet of low acid, low carb, low fat, low dairy. Fun times, but it does help.

I'm in the same boat...about 3 years ago I got some shortness of breath, burping, and left arm pain...doctors said was anxiety and was put on meds for sinusitis. Sense then the breathing has always been bad and the burping. Eventually I started getting stomache pains. I started to see a gi and my egd and biopsy showed celiac disease. I started my diet 2 years ago and it relieved it some. I've been having a lot of stomache pain though and just now my throat has had that feeling. I ended up having another sinus infection, but afterwards throat still hurts and a lot of white good. My breathing has never improved, my burping comes and goes and I had a cough for a while which cleared. I've had every type of gi test out there except motility and 3 egds which showed no damage or reflux. I'm also wondering if I have bad allergies (taking shots and meds) or anxiety. Started celexa about a week ago today, and starting therapy next week. Honestly I dunno if lpr is culprit or anxiety. It's not a fun thing to go through !
