Hi there
I had an endoscopy about
4 months ago, it showed eosophigities although I was never told the reason I have this? I have tried aloe juice, ginger tea, digestive enzymes and now I've just started taking acid free vitamin c. I've heard that apple cider vinegar is good so I may well try that as well. What I need is to be referred to a specialist but my GP is hesitant to do so, he keeps trying me on different ppi's which don't work . I have also put on 7lb since being on ppi's which is a rare side effect but it does occur in 1% of people, my GP just ignores that too. It's such a depressing miserable disease I feel totally isolated.

Hello Loz - if you are able to avoid reflux by sticking to some of these foods and a diet, it indeed is good news. Several of us can not simply control or avoid with diet alone.
Now, as far as natural things go - there are several to try:
- Digestive Enzymes
- DGL
- Aloe Vera Juice
- Fennel seeds
- Chamomile, Ginger teas
- Slippery Elm
- Turmeric+Honey
- Probiotics
- Raising the head of the bed
- Breathing Exercises (Pranayam Yoga, Sudarshan Kriya Yoga) / Meditation
- Then there are quite a few other things one can try: L-Glutamine, L-Theanine, Pepsin GI, Zinc etc.
It all depends on what the root cause is - if the root cause is the transient relaxations of the LES - then breathing exercises do help some. If the root cause is hernia, then raising the bed helps some. If the root cause is imbalance of gut-bacteria, then the probiotics will surely help. If the root cause is slow digestion etc, then the digestive enzymes would help - and so on. There is also a possibility that you may have low-acid, then you can try Betaine HCL to supplement the acid.
Have you got any tests done yet? Endoscopy, Manometry, pH measurement etc.?
I can not tolerate PPIs/H2s .. so I've tried several of the above already. My symptoms have reduced in severity and frequency but have not gone away. The root cause in my case is TLESrs .. so I need to somehow get my nervous system to return to normal functioning .. I am trying but haven't hit upon a regimen or a protocol that can keep my symptoms under full control yet. I do think though that one can get a "normalcy" in their life by finding some combination from the above and can manage / reduce the symptoms.
Hope this helps - also search in this forum and you might hit other threads that address this topic.
