Hi

I'm new here.im actually new to chat rooms full stop but everyone on here seemed so helpful and honest I thought you may be able to help me.

I've been suffering with as my doctors put it gross gerd for almost 2 years.ive gone down from a uk size 10 to a uk 6. I'm scheduled for surgery on 24th July and in all honesty I'm scared.

I don't really know what to expect or what life post surgery will be like.any tips or experiences would be gratefully recieved.

It's nice not to feel alone.

The first week is a little rough. You'll be sore, fatigued, and have a very small appetite. You'll be restricted to liquids 1/2 cup at a time. 6-8 small meals a day. You'll doubt the surgery and feel like it all was for nothing, but it relax and go with the healing. Don't fight against it or you'll feel worse.
2nd week you'll start feeling better and can move on to puddings and baby foods, but still small frequent meals.
3rd week still tender but feeling like your old self. Still on soft foods, but if able a little more food 2/3 to 1 cup of food.
4th week more sold foods, but leave off breads, steak, raw veggies, and foods that swell up. Still small servings.
By 6th or 7th week you should be introducing firmer foods. Go slow and don't over eat.

You'll need to avoid lifting anything heavier than a milk jug for 6 weeks while the stitches inside heal. Gradually add weight as the weeks progress. Don't do anything strenous until 3rd month. By then 90% of the healing will be done. The last 10% will take the rest of the year.

Welcome to the Healing Well GERD forum!  Joy knows what she's talking about and has given you some great information.  There are lots of members here who've had the surgery and know what the recovery is like.  Be sure to keep posting your questions and concerns.

Sam,

you already got advise on what the recovery is like - all I can advise is that you do a lot of research on your surgeon and make sure he did lots of those procedures and is successful doing them - this is crucial with surgeries like this. You do not want someone who is unexperienced do it or you will end up having more problems. Good luck.
