1) After surgery, will this swelling go away, especially since I will no longer need my Omeprazole? It depends on what is causing it. Do you eat healthy and exercise? If so, then maybe. If you eat normally and don't exercise, that's probably where the weight is coming from. Also, heart problems, thyroid problems, and other health issues can cause swelling that isn't made up of fat. Also, it could be related to salt, gluten, or lactose issues. Unfortunately, you will probably have more gas after the surgery since you can't burp. I keep beano on hand in case I'm eating gassy veggies and gas-x if necessary.
2) Will it be easy to shed this weight after surgery so I can get back to my normal weight? You'll certainly lose some weight, but probably not 50lbs. Maybe 20. I lost 10. It will restrict how fast you can eat & the size of your bites, which could prevent you from eating too much.
3) I will only have three weeks before I return to work. Will this be long enough for me to recover and be able to return to work? Especially a restricted environment like teaching in a classroom, where I will not be able to run to the bathroom when necessary? It seems like everyone is different. Most people here needed at least 2 weeks, but I was back to full work after 6 days. I was pretty tired for about
3 weeks. How old and how healthy you are definitely are factors in your recovery. I was standing on my feet for 2-6 hours at a time without bathroom breaks after a week and a half. You probably won't need to run to the bathroom- because you're not eating solids you don't really poop much and it's work to keep hydrated because you can only take sips.
4) How long before you feel "normal" again? I felt about
90% after a month. Now at 4 months I'm about
99%. Just can't to situps or run long distances for now :) Good luck!!
