Hello! I am a new poster but not a new reader. I guess I just lurked. Anyway, I thought I would share my experience and express a few concerns since I am a month out of surgery (full wrap).
I'd had heartburn since I was in middle school. I am currently 27 (female). After years of the same story of ppi's having to be raised I finally asked about the surgery. I had known about it, actually one doctor suggested it when I was 19 however I still Ielt i could control my symptoms with meds. I almost made it ten years until I began having esophagitis and serious burning upper gi pain. My manometry study showed my esophagus was tense but responsive, with definate damage from acid. My 48 hr pH study showed a score of 53 which my surgeon said was extraordinarily high. Stomach empty test showed I was slower than average to empty.
Since I am relatively young and of normal weight I thought it would be a breeze but I was wrong. I'm not saying it was awful, just not fun. I had to stay two nights in the hospital, a barium swallow showing just a trickle going into my stomach which is/was hopefully just swelling and irritation.
I still have bouts of the pain I had pre-op attributed to esophagitis, which hits at 7 or 8 on the pain scale. I thought this would go away with the wrap unless its not esophagitis pain. I haven't gone to the er since I still had my pain relief from surgery but man I considered it.
I also get pain if I have been sitting (probably not in the best posture) and straighten up quickly. Like something tightened and it has to loosen. Anyone else experience this?
Also, the new "full" sucks. My brain tells me I am still hungry yet my wrap is all but yelling at me to stop. Does this body confusion ever get straightened out?
I will also get a deep sensation in the middle of my front shoulders, which is a painful ache, but I am 4 weeks post op so it couldn't be the surgery gas pain could it? I see my surgeon in a few days but always feel silly complaining about every little thing especially if its not connected or very normal.
Thank you for your time and input.
