Hi everyone. I just had the TIF procedure done last monday to fix my hernia and acid reflux. So far I have had the worst case of built up gas and bloating, which my surgeon said to take gas x for. I did that for 2 days and it really helped. Then I started with severe spasms right where the work was done, to the point I went into the er last night. My surgeon could not be reached cuz he was off, they gave me iv nausea and pain meds. The dr. didnt believe I was having this issue, as he was the same doc I had seen just months ago when my stomach issues first showed up. I went home and had 2 bouts of hiccups, which I was relieved for cuz it pretty much stopped the spasming. Today was a pretty good day for me all the way around. ANd then came dinner time when I still felt hungry after sipping about 4 oz. of beef broth. I decided it couldn't hurt if I had a small fudge bar since I didn't think I was forcing it. I didn't eat the whole thing, just enough til I felt satisfied without the gnawing pains of hunger. Now I am really concerned..because since I did that my stomach has not felt good, bloated, getting alot of gurgling through my stomach and intestines. A little nausea and pressure n heartburn in my chest. Did I do somethign wrong? Has anybody experienced this? Did it mess up the procedure? Oh I hope somebody has some positive feedback for me as this is heavy on my mind now and am afraid to go to bed.

I would like too get this procedure done myself,but my insurance company won't cover it at this time,too new of procedure,so they say,anyways you need too remember that your just a week out of having this done,you need to watch very careful what you eat,your stomach has been through alot and is in a healing process,be patient in eating some of your favorite foods.Keep us informed of your progress and goodluck.

Thank you for the reply. I am feeling much better, but last night was really hard. I talked to my surgeons office this morning so I am feeling reassured. I know I am not suppose to eat very much at once, it was an honest oopsie cuz I just felt so hungry. But I will not be doing that one again. wink

Hi Fiery1 - just curious - as to how large your hernia was? Did the surgeon indicate to you that patients with large hernias may not be good candidates for TIF?

Oh mine was small. My surgeon was a part of the orginal testing of this procedure and has a 100% success rate. He is the only top notch general surgeon here, so I do trust his work...and I do not trust many just because they have a medical license. I don't seem to have the same struggles as many reported on here, but it's still too early indicate one way or the other. I certainly hope it was the right choice because 3 months before my surgery I really couldn't eat much of anything because of my hernia and the acid erosion..

Ok so starting yesterday afternoon my acid reflux has returned, not like it was. Had a hard time sleeping since my tummy was so upset. I called my surgeons office this morning and I am back on my acid reducer and anti-nausea meds. Not a big deal, I am staying positive and focused on that day when all this is behind me. Dr. said this is all normal and part of the healing. He reminded me that this surgery is not an overnight fix, which I needed to hear. With every pro, there is usually a con, this is one of them. Follow up appointment is next Tuesday.
