Hi,
Today was not very nice! I had my doctors appointment to discuss my ongoing dyspepsia and anxiety so I was pretty uptight already. Yesterday, the students in my classroom managed to lose one of the snakes I keep so I was very edgy to say the least (we found the snake in a book case - it is a stimsons python and very harmless and gentle). When I went to the toilet this morning I had another episode of pretty scary rectal bleeding. In fact I freaked out completely!
Approximately two years ago I had my first rectal bleeding issue. I had copious amounts of bright red blood in the bowl and on the paper. My GP (who I believe is outstanding) performed a telescopic examination in his room (quite uncomfortable, but nothing to scream about). He found a haemorrhoid just inside and he told me that was the reason for the bleeding. Since then, it has happened a number of times under the same circumstances so I just assumed it was the same reason.
So in I walked to my doctor and in between some very anxious tears (I'm a 39 year old male and obviously a sook!) I unloaded all my anxiety onto him. Firstly he stated that the chance of both my dyspepsia and rectal bleeding issues are sinister are remote in the extreme, however because of my anxiety problem, he thought it would be a good idea to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy so I could put my demons to rest. At this I also freaked! However he told me the visiting surgeon (I live in a small rural town in the Southwest of Western Australia) will do both tests together under light anaesthetic.
Help! What can I expect and how bad will this be to experience? I now have to wait until the surgeon contacts me to book the tests then I have to have them. I am terrified!
If anyone could please discuss this with me it would be most appreciated.
Thank you,
Jamie
