So I have neurogenic cough AND LPR. Doc wants to ween me off Prilosec (using Zantac) and then down and off in time for the lovely invasive 24 hours of testing in January.

In the meantime eat whatever I want (?), but i know better...they always say that I heard but why when i'm eating low acid isn't it better to leave it that way?

Best part is the Elavil which may give me a little relief in the meantime (fingers crossed) and will also confirm the neurogenic stuff.

Oh and get this, she saw evidence of reflux in my nose! She didn't seem to think i had BAD reflux but it was getting way up there (we will know for sure after the ph testing ugh dreading that)

So not good news but confirming news and maybe i can have some quality of life moving forward without this cough.

If it's getting in your throat it's probably messing with your epiglotis.
Acid damaged mine causing problems with swallowing for me. Don't drag out your testing, put a rush on it if you can.

Joy, that sounds horrible. Can it be fixed?

thegspeak-- I liked Dr. Kaufman--but she is quite intense! on me she wanted to do some test where they stick pins in your voice box--that kind of scared me. Anyway, she is right on with the videoscope and the discussion of damage and it's great that she shows you everything.

She did tell me that she had the Nissen done--I think she also suffered for many years and just wanted to be done with it--so I feel that she does understand the stress and wear that this can put on a person.

Bel she was quite a formidable (sp?) person! I cried like a baby (out of relief and just release i think) and she was like "none of that" I begged her not to do all that testing and she kind of yelled at me in a supportive way. I think she was really sure it was neurogenic based on the forms and interview but when she scoped she said right away she saw reflux.

Joy there's nothing i can do until January 17 since that is their next appointment. I will say my throat has been really burning today.

The mucus is less but i think i miss it right now! at least it coated this throat.

In the meantime i'm staying low acid and following normal reflux protocol even if she didn't instruct me to because I want to minimize the damage.

Just took my first elavil praying it helps the cough. It took a huge chunk out of my bank account but feel it was worth it. The patients before and after me were from Arizona and California! It's a little crazy that more doctors can't help more people!
