Hi franciss,Welcome to Healing Well! I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's post-Nissen problems. It sounds as if everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. She's very lucky to have a strong advocate like you on her side. It's essential as she moves through the healthcare system. Keep up the great work!
I'm not all that familiar with facilities in Illinois, but hopefully someone will be by with information. Another moderator on the forum, Bill, has had surgery at Loyola, which I believe is in northern Illinois, but I'm not sure. I sent him an email and hopefully he'll receive it soon and stop by to weigh in.
I suggest that you change the title of your post to include the request for Illinois facilities/surgeons. It might catch the eye of someone who is familiar with that area. Click on the little pencil at the top right corner of your post, and it will open it again for editing.
I agree that it is wise to seek out a more experienced Nissen redo surgeon--especially since your mom isn't young, and you've been having problems with the surgeon who did the procedure. I can certainly understand why you don't have a lot of confidence in him/her, as a lot has gone wrong.
I also agree that there is swelling at the wrap site during early recovery, and the wrap may very well not be too tight. Doing another procedure should be done only if absolutely necessary, and a second opinion is crucial.
Stick to your guns and continue your research. Do you have a good primary care physician who could steer you into the right direction? How about your GI doc? He/she owes it to you to provide you with an alternative surgeon/medical center that could provide you with a second opinion.
Keep fighting. It will work out...
Very best wishes!
Denise
