BILE REFLUX AFTER ENDOSCOPY, MANOMETRY AND PH

I read Metamucil (Psyllium Husks) can be used to absorb bile instead of carafate.

I am taking it and it seems to be helping.

I use Swanson Vitamins brand.

4 tablets after meals with water.

3 tablets before bed without water.

I'm thinking of trying metamucil because it appears I'm in the same boat. Like Alexxxx, I have tried everything under the sun for this.

How's metamucil been helping you guys?

Any update on the metamucil for bile reflux?

Mothing has worked for me. Metamucil helps but makes my stomach hurt. Im really scared this is not gonna stop. Im already a year and a half with this thing. Although my last endoscopy and biopsy were fine.

Thanks so much! i dont think we have that here, i live in Mexico but the theory is good. Im starting a program called nutritional balancing since i have other health issues mainly adrenal fatigue. I hope it also helps my liver and bile reflux. They use some enzymes with each meal called gb3 that help the liver and bile flow so hopefully they will help me. the program helps inflammation no matter where and its target is to make all the organs function again through diet, sleep, water and mineral supplements after a hair analysis.Also helps you detox heavy metals. How did they know it was bile reflux? What test showed this? I

I have been taking the questran. It does seem to help ease my stomach, not so much for my throat yet or heartburn. I think I may have to up the packages to 3 times a day though.

I. Starting the program imentioned above and one of the things im taking is kelp...its helping, it helps the liver and has an ingredient ised in gaviscon. It has iodine though, i have hypothyroidism so its ok for me to take it but everyone should ask their dr. It also helps with digestion and speeding transit time of food. Please stay away from prokinetics. I have cervical dystonia (not from it though) but ive read that a side effect could be movement disorders and it is a horrible condition!! Ill let you all know how it goes.

Hi! Well first i went to the gi because sometimes i felt a burning in my stomach, the did an endoscopy and said it was acid reflux....no bile back then. They sent me omeprazole for a month and at three weeks of treatment i started having a constant having to pass saliva an clear my throat feeling as well as burning in my stomach...nobody listened and they sent me all the other antiacids as well as ppi s. I knew there was something more because they did not work at all. Finally after more than a year i went to another gi who did another endoscopy and found my stomach full of bile (it was empty) when its empty bile its suppossed to be kept in the gallbladder. Somehow i think the omeprazol damaged the flow of bile crom my liver and gallbladder adding that i already had a weak valve now i have had bile reflux for a year and a half. There is not much treatment as with acid reflux. Carafate is one of the meds but it did not work for me, made,e dizzy and has aluminum. Theygave me prokinetics but i already have a movement disorder why would i take something that could make it worse? And well ive tried several natural remedies including soluble fiber like metamucil but makes my stomach hurt although it carries the bile out for aure...ive seen it (sorry for the explanation). Not sure how you get officially diagnosed with the horrible bile reflux but i've had plenty of arguements with gi doctors on whether it exists or not... im thinking i have it. Like you meds dont work, i have bile in my stomach during endoscopies and i just got done doing a dual ph probe. I saw spikes of ph up to 8.5 about once every 10 minutes... had one probe in my stomach and it barely showed a ph below 2, even around meal times. If i have bile reflux, i'll let you know what my doctors want to do about it. Also, did the methacoline challenge yesterday... nearly died lol. The lady doing the test was puzzled by the fact that it took so long to breath in...

Hi guys!! Well i Just wanted to say that im taking either metamucil or two tablespoons of rice bran in a Little water when i get up and 30 minutes before meals and sleep....i wait 15 minutes and then drink a glass or two of water...wait 15 minutes more ro eat. This is what has helped me the most!! Here is my theory...bile is in my stomach even before i eat or drink something and when i eat something,more,bile gets released so its impossible to bind and control it with Just fiber after eating (tried this and did not work for me) I researched and if i take it before meals (30 or 45 minutes) it binds the bile in the stomach, goes to the intestines and by the time you eat and bile is released fiber binds it in the intestines before reaching the stomach. That and posture has helped me the most as well as a low fat diet. Not non fat since we all need fats. The explanation i have is how cholesterol meds work from what i understand (not an expert). They take them before meals so fats are binded before the stomach. Try it. If i have e a light meal, take my fiber and go to bed three hours after rating i wake up with no lump in the throat feeling. Also that feeling (my only symptom) dissapears during the day of i do things right.No laying Down after meals and good posture to avoid putting pressure on the LES. Hope this helps...im almost two years with bile reflux,24/7....These two weeks have been my best. Also fiber keeps things moving decreasing the chance of food sitting and refluxing.

Hi...I know it's been a long time since anyone added to this thread so I hope everyone is well. I'm hoping Alexxxxx can update on how it's going. Your story sounds very similar to mine in so many ways and, having just been diagnosed with bile reflux after endoscopy (and a 5cm hiatal hernia as well), I am desperately searching for lifelines, encouragement, anything to give me a bit of hope.
Has the Metamucil continued to help? Any other progress or medical help?
