Nissen Fundo 5+ year stories?

Hi, I am new and I have LPR. Some days are worse than others. Currently on Dexilant and it is not really helping. All other meds that I have tried have not helped me either. It isn't super terrible and I don't have any voice problems or lung problems (besides sometimes it is hard to take deep breaths). I have been on 20mg omeprazole twice daily, 40mg nexium once daily, 40mg protonix once daily, and now 60mg dexilant. Nothing is working to bring me back to 100%. I have also tried 40mg protonix, 10mg carafate, and 25mg trazodone. The carafate helps, but again, nothing brings me to 100%. The biggest issue is my burping. I burp constantly. I don't think it is related to my swallowing because I wake up and start to belch. I have never had any problems with my health until I started working as a CNA at a nursing home, where I believe I have given myself a HH from all the heavy lifting. This is where all of my troubles started. This, I believe, is the core of my problem. (HH confirmed with 2nd endoscope). I actually am going into medical school for surgery eventually (only 20 atm, just applied for bachelors program in Biochem). I have done a lot of research and I am not at the point where I want to do the surgery. I am on the SCD diet to see if it has anything to do with my intestinal tract (3 week mark). The thing I wanted to talk about was, are there any members here that have had the surgery 5+ years ago? I have looked at the studies, but I would be interested in hearing from people on this forum that had the surgery years ago. And most importantly, for people looking at these forums for advice to go with the surgery, I would say that you should go with your doctor's opinion, or what you truly feel is right. This is because, forums like this, most of the people are ones that have complications and come for advice and help. So it is discouraging, the people who have minimal complications don't seek help, resulting in it looking as if this surgery is not as effective as it really is.

My husband had a NF 6 years ago & is doing great. He had GERD for 20+ years & had developed Barretts esophagus. His reflux was so bad that he was taken to the emergency room on 3 different occasions because he thought he was having heart attacks when it was terrible reflux. He said that a day & half after surgery, he felt no reflux for the first time in 20+ years! He has continued to do extremely well. His GI doc has said he only needs an endoscope every 3 years. The only side effect of the surgery is that he has a bit more "gas" than before. He can eat anything he wants. Interestingly, he also suffered from severe migraines during the same 20+ years he had reflux so bad. After the NF, his migraines have disappeared. In the 6 years since surgery, he has only had 3 migraines!

It's nearly 10 years since my operation and I'm still fine and have had no GERD symptoms since - other than from a tummy bug and wierdly from a bout of shingles I had recently.

wow opnwhl4, that is super unfortunate... I am sorry to hear that. I hope the surgeon paid to have your nissen redo done since it was his fault...
It is looking more and more like I would rather have the linx system done. Since my HH is only 1 cm and the max limit on a HH for the linx system is 3cm. I feel it has a lot less complications.
