Yeah I am 21 and I am currently studying for a test as we speak. Yes I am still bit surprised people my age get it but life happens. I don't think that it will do you any harm unless you are lactose intolerant. Yeah it helps but when I stop I can feel the light burn. Its like all foods are my enemy haha.

Yeah I just took mine but the pill is so huge I want to get liquid form.

Good for you being in school!.....In my day, the goal was to get married like right out of high school.  (stupid)

Check out Pro-Labs in Henderson,NV on line.  everything they make is in powered form in a gel cap which is easy to take, and is gentle on the stomach.

I order all my stuff from them, they are a little more than going to the drug store, but you can't find products like theirs anywhere.

hey all

i have been doing fine as you know. I believe i am ok considering gerd-sake but the thing is I still have this upper back pain that won't go away. Some says it's magnesium deficiency, some says it's gerd but I don't know...
i had had one specific achy spot on my spine a little higher than middle. I pressed there every time i felt achy and it went away after a week or so.
And then, other achy spots appeared. This time it's higher on the spine and another one is lower but higher then the very first one and bit left. It feels like it's muscle thing there.

The thing is, i still feel a bit of heartburn when my stomach is empty but this pain appeared in the first place NOT when i had severe gerd symptoms like nausea and burning pain but when i was getting treatment and beginning to feel better.(which is when i was taking ppi) so i had thought it was also related to magnesium deficiency but this won't go away when all other side effects went away after i quit my ppi 3 weeks ago...

Some people say lung cancer can cause upper back pain.
When i went to see my doctor i was having mild dry night cough but i don't have it anymore.
i breathe normal, no short of breath or anything.
Three doctors listened to my heart and lung and said they sounded ok every time. If i have a lung cancer and it causes this pain then I think i should cough at least, don't you think?

I can't fall a sleep very well but once i am in, i sleep relatively well. I mean, even if it's a few hours at a time, I don't wake up due to pain or something.
The best hour is when i woke up. After the good night's sleep until i sit up and walk about doing things i don't feel pain. As long as my back doesn't touch anything it is more like dull pain just uncomfortable but when I lean on even soft back of the sofa and i feel it deep there. it's specific spots, not spreading areas.
Shouldn't i feel pain all the time if my pain is form my stomach or lung?

sigh.
I know. What can you say? I should see pulmonary specialist to rule that out. But i just am exhausted to go see any more doctor by now.

They don't know a thing about me and they can't do a thing about me.
Even if they find i have a lung cancer now, what can they do? Lung cancer is not operable most of the time if it's found when you already begin to feel a pain from it.
I will just know why i die and WILL HAVE TO PAY for it.

I just ranted because i am frustrated. haha

I use a salon pas but it doesn't last long. Hard to reach, too. grrr. I don't want to take painkillers just yet. Even Tylenol. It works through the liver and my body hasn't done with detoxing all that chemicals, i think.

I thought maybe it's because my pillow is too high(i haven't bought that leaning thingy to raise my head yet) so i changed to lower one last night. It will take a few days to see the effect, IF it's that pillow so I don't know. We will see.

I don't know my body anymore. I don't understand my body. I was with it for 44 years and i find it a stranger. i begin to hate it.

I wish for a single day that I don't feel a pain anywhere in my body.
One day.
Is that too much to ask?

I do think it's 'something to do' with pre-menopause but not everything.
Gale(tummywoes) is beyond that age, and Roah(pink) is too young and Chris is well, a man. lol
My only daughter went away to college last year too and that was hard but i just shrugged away. I am just glad to see her growing up beautifully.
It is not all in the heads of some stressed out, getting old ladies is what I think.

Then what is it?
That is $640,000 question.

I just read EJ's post.  EJ, I am really sorry about how you are feeling right now.  Believe me, I know.

Gail, I was away because I had a pretty rough day today.  First of all, I went back on Aciphex.  I gave it a week and I felt like my inside was getting worse to a point that it was beginning to affect my appetite.  

But that's a minor thing.

The big thing was that I got a call from my doctor last night about the result of the ultrasound that was performed earlier on.  The doctor informed me that they found a few liver "spots" of concern.  They have no idea what it is at this point.  Could be a cyst, could be some other benign mass but they won't know until they do more imaging tests such as a CT scan, MRI and possibly a biopsy.  Being I am already of a ball of anxiety, especially about cancer, I just had a rough day, playing out the worst case scenario.  I barely got a wink of sleep last night and was just miserable the whole day.  I manage to get a quick nap in right around dinner time and woke up feeling a little bit better but now am worried about my sleep during the night.

How did indigestion and lump in throat evolve into this?  And it's not like I will get the rest of the test done right away.  It's going to be one test, wait for the result, wait for the next test, wait.  A lot of waiting and anxious days and nights are in my future.  Literally at this moment, I am doing better than this morning, because I didn't even have the courage to let you guys know what's going on.  At least, I can express how I am feeling.

I just also want to say that you guys and the bonds we formed in this specific thread have helped me immensely.  I too love you guys.  Good night.

Wow I got up early today 3am, uck!  I saw your post and wanted to respond.  about the back pain.

I have been having back pain ever since this whole thing started.  Mine is the lower back though, like I am going to break in half?......I have thought of everything from kidneys, to lungs, etc., of course the more I think about it the worse it gets.......I do take one Tylenol a,nd it seems to stop, so I think it could be my mattress, too many pillows, my posture which is horrible, and tension in my back muscles from stress.   I am also a long time smoker, (I know, I know), so believe me I think of the worst also.

 

Having your daughter leave for school is also very stressful.  I went through so much sadness when my daughter left the nest.  Strange feeling.   was happy she was going on with her life, but it left mine so empty!........it does get better  ;)........so this pain in your back could be anything.  Try not to go to the worst scenario, sometimes our mind set can make matters worse or better.  I have promised myself I will not dwell on the negative thoughts today and just assume that I am eating better, and I WILL put some weight back on, it may just take time.

You know it could be menopausal as well?  try some of the Estroven (OTC) and see if it helps.

I hope you have a good day today.......hey try a Tylenol, it may help?

Good Morning Mark,

I hope you are asleep and not up like me watching QVC, lol.

I was concerned about you since you were not here all day yesterday and had this gut feeling that something had happened.  mad OK, how did your doctor sound?  was he calm or very concerned? Did he sound like it was something for alarm?  Did the liver show a spot or was there liver type spots somewhere else?????

I am sure they will not make you wait for weeks to have another test done.  I know that almost everything passes through our liver, ie: all the warnings on everything. 

I know your thoughts are running all over the place, just like mine would be, but please do NOT go negative with this.  It could be something totally harmless.  Have you been all over the net?  Don't, it will just give a zillion options and none of them could apply to you.  

Please let me know how you do today.  You may want to talk to your Dr. again and get some more answers? turn

Hi gail, I'm assuming that message for mark was me wink

My doc seemed calm when he gave me the news but he was concerned about the chain of events: the weight loss was the one that he seemed to be concerned about the most. Because of that, he said we have to play it safe and find out as much as we can. They are spots on the liver that the ultrasound indicated as nonnormal cell, which could be benign or malignant.

The net is wonderful and dangerous. I found information that both helped and scared me. The thing is all my liver function test numbers were awesome this time. Given my age, non alcoholic use, I am just not in a high risk group and combined with the normal liver numbers, these spots could just be benign spots. I actually have a radiologist cousin who basically said the same thing and told me not to worry.

But I can't help it. I feel crappy half the day with my stomach feeling bloated or weird twinges and aches in my arms and legs. When I feel something abnormal anywhere, that's when my mind starts to go negative. If I am in my good stretch, i can be bit more calm like last night. Regardless, none of this matters until I get the ct scan to either rule out or confirm. I know that positive thinking is key here and try my best to stay positive. Just not easy.

You mean "Chris" above :)...My GERD is acting up a bit the last few days. I think I was a bit upset because of my daughter again. She dropped two courses and didn't let me know until now. ~sign~
It means she is not graduating when I expect her should be. It is costing us a fortune!!!

Will: have you been to a chiropractor or a massage therapist for your pain?

Chris: please try to take it easy. I know it's easy said then done. I am thinking of you.

Oh, the doctors and the weight loss issue.......I know I will hear the same story.......do they not realize that we are not eating as usual and are generally feeling like crap, stressed out, well of course we are going to lose weight!

It seems like a no brainer to me.......Please listen to your cousin and start thinking, "It is nothing".....

When do you think you will have the scan done?  I can just imagine how you are feeling right now. Likthee one more thing to worry about!......too bad we don't live closer, we could go together for these stupid tests, lol.

I already ask my niece who is a RN to go with me if I have to have a scan.   I am so chicken of tests of any kind, maybe they would let her in the room with me??   either that or the DR can be there and hold my hand....ha ha, like that would ever happen!

 ...   I KNOW, I WILL GET ALL THE BLOOD WORK AND YOU CAN GET THE SCANS, THAT WOULD WORK!

 

This whole thing has made me paranoid, yesterday I kept having a little pain right in the middle of my chest and thought for sure it was my heart!.......yet I knew I was full of gas.  My mind can really get carried away with worry.

Vivian, thank you. Just from my perspective, there is absolutely nothing more important than my health and those of my loved ones. Everything else is just for fun. Your daughter will find her way. Don't worry.

Gail, yes, its raining here. I love sleeping when its raining. Ever since my issue started almost two months ago, I have a hard time sleeping next to someone so quite often, I sleep alone on the sofa now, and I do get a little more sleep but I miss sleeping next to my wife and my kids.

I wish we could go to these tests together too :). I wish they would call so at least I'll know when the date is. Not knowing is driving me crazy. I wish I could just take a magic pill that fast forwards time so i can get this over with.

I sleep on the sofa a lot too, there is more support and I can sleep easier.

Believe me, I have not been the same since this started.  I feel sorry for my fiancé, since I tend to stay to myself and have not been attentive to him.

 hope it will pass soon.

 

Are the people going to contact you ??  usually I have to contact them myself and set up appt. 

 

I love the rain also, but none here. ;(   try to get some sleep today!

I am so sorry that I rambled on when you had a crisis. This is what I do when i am scared to death : Thinking of the worst scenario.
Let's say they do find something bad then they will cut it out and you will be cured. Liver is a big thing and if you find it early it's a great luck that you had all this gerd and stuff. After that(money/stress/pain/work concerns) you would have to have tests more often for a while(bother/stress and money) but you will be fine in the end like my dad.
See, the reason i am telling you the dooms day's scenario is to show that,
1. I really do think in your shoes
2. You would come out FINE IN THE END WHATSOEVER.
How about that?

Here, let us hold your hand while you wait and have tests done. We are all here for you. I wish i could cook something for you. That's what we do for a friend who is sick physically or emotionally and you are BOTH.

And seriously i do envy you for over and beyond THIS. I am not saying this impulsively. I remember when my mom had her 52th birthday(when i was barely 20's), thinking, how wonderful it is to be that age! I wish i could go to sleep now and wake up 55 or something. They say, enjoy when you are younger even a day but well, i will enjoy when i ACTUALLY CAN is what I say. Lol

Really, you must be concerned i understand. In this economy we all worry about money and our children's performance at school. I wonder if you know the reason she is dropping her classes. I tell my daughter always plan ahead now when she has more times but i can't be sure. Nobody can be sure about the future. I know a son of my husband's collegue who 'enjoyed his life' doing all sorts of things for almost 5 years after finishing college on time and then went back to school for premed and now in medical school at the age 32. Don't be stressed out because there is nothing you can actually do. Have a perspective.
You are my menopause buddy, then. Haha
Let's do this things together.

Life is full of surprises. Bad for now but there were good surprises too so...

EJ, thanks for your kind words and no, do not feel bad about your post the other day.  It reminded me that I am not in this alone and other people have problems too.  And no matter what happens, I have to deal with it.  That's life.  I just had a pretty easy life up to this point, with good health that I took everything for granted.  Perhaps that's why my coping skills are so poor too.  Just never had too much practice, LOL. 

Gail, my doctor said that they (the CT scan folks) will call me.  I don't even know who to call at this point.

Will: you are so cute, yes you are my menopause buddy :)...I hate to admit this but I do have high expectation from my daughter. I try to let her choose her path and yet I worry that she will head in the wrong direction. BTW, do you have a lot of menopause symptoms? The only things I notice with me are GERD, hair thinning, dry skin. I can't wait until this menopause stage is over.

Chris: Trust me I know health is the most important thing and yet I can't control my anxiety(about my daughter). I know I worry too much and yet I have a hard time controlling it. How are you handling yours?

Viv, to be honest, I don't handle it that well. I am getting by, by leaning on friends for long conversations and advice. I am going to start seeing a therapist soon as well and I post stuff here to just share my feelings.

As far as your daughter's concerned, it's all about perspective, you know. I have high expectations for those around me and inevitably, I always end up disappointed and hurt. It's just healthier to accept them for who they are and when they do succeed, then you can enjoy it instead of thinking that your expectations were simply met.

Viv, I have started this 3 times now, my computer keeps kicking out!!

You know we all do the best we can with what we know when we are raising our children.  All of the values instilled in your daughter will always be there .  Now is the time you need to "let go" and let her fly.  I know its hard, but you can do it.

When my daughter left thehouse, I felt such a void and really missed by buddy always being there.  But I had to get over it or drive my husband and son crazy.

Chris is right about expectations.  Too many will end up slapping you in the face.

I had some issues with my son and was so disappointed because of expectations.

But guess what?  He found his own way and turned out fine.

Just give her lots of reassurance that you are there for her.... it will all be fine!

My premenopause symptoms other than gerd are : slight mood swing around pms time and this upper back pain perhaps?
I haven't noticed thinning hair yet but since i am genrally getting old i don't like the look of my skin ;) dry?.... Perhaps not. I get zits on my chin area in pms time but it has been there since i became adult(intersting i had never had skin trouble when i was adolescent! Lol)
Whenever i complain about my upper back, they say, if it's not from gerd(or something serious youknowwhat T.T ) it must be pre-menopause. You get achy all over in my age they say. Is it ture? Should we live like this for years from now? OMG why do they call it menopause not hell? Especially when we have 'ohter' problems in our lives, right? There is a academic article that claims, evolutionary speaking, this is exactly something to do with parting with our children, though. We will talk about it later some other time.
Let's keep in touch and share our misery :) this is going to be fun, i can tell.

Have you tried aloe? My friend recommended it and i am going to try it just in case my back pain is from my not-completely-healed esophagus.
I tend to suffer through pains so quietly often lest my family worry even when i was very little that my mom call me winter bear(because i hide and growl alone when i am sick) to this day. I tend to mask my pain even to myself. I keep saying i am ok when i am not. And then i get tired from hiding it. -_-;;
Maybe i am not ok. Hahaha

Here i talk to you guys so openly this is so refreshing. This is new to me.
And fun. There, good new surprise i found, today.

Will, I had the same back issue as you. Since my gastritis/gerd started I've been having a nagging upper back pain between my shoulder blades. I even have a post about on this forum. It got so bad that i would call in sick from work. I used to down tums just to relieve the pain. I was racking my brain to try to figure out what was causing it. I thought it might have been esophegus spasms or heartburn felt in my back. I keep a journal of all the foods I've been eating. I went through it to see what foods I eat on a daily basis. I thought maybe it was something I was eating. The only thing I was eating every day was 2 bananas. To test it out, I stopped eating bananas 2 weeks ago.....and you know what? I haven't had back pain since. Weird huh??? Maybe I developed an allergic reaction to it? I don't know, just glad the pain is gone.

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well, Chris I read your posts and I really see you are having hard time, I do hope you get some good news and I shall pray for you none of us need to be in agony.

about the back pain thing, for me it came with the heartburn when my heartburn comes on I get this pain directly linked to my back and it would stay there until my heartburn is gone, my mom used to get heartburn and she told me sometimes the pain will be there when you are having an episode. I seriously know now that I have heartburn everyday as soon I am done eating, I have no idea what's causing it but for now gum is helping not feel anything, taking my dgl tabs, probiotics, and chamomile tea, hoping something is healing down there I am afraid of my irritation getting worse. My biggest concern right now is the redness that I have in the back of my mouth. I wanted to know if its coming from the acid like when I sleep or something, does it silently escape into back my mouth (I also have like cold or something, but I am scared is it cold or the post-nasal drip and mucus in throat I read about LPR). I think I might have lpr or silent reflex but I have none of the symptoms, and does anyone get burning in there stomach after eating? mine has gone down in size of pain but its still there.

Oh another question is it just me or when you drink something cold or hot, does anyone feel it in the bottom of their esophagus or your mid chest? I wonder if thats about and is that where the most open wounds are. I also have this weird cool feeling in the mid of my chest like cool water wonder if thats acid sitting there or something. I know I have the weirdest symptoms this one started last week haha. I might need see an ENT and want to get the 24-hr test done but I am afraid of more bad news.

Will: Yeah def try some dgl for an inflamed esophagus its suppose to help heal faster or maybe mastic gum or slippery elm. but I heard mastic gum and dgl are more effective. Have you tried aloe vera yet? I wonder if I am using it right, but whats weird the one I got has citric acid in it or all the other bottles have it I am like why can't there be one without it cause I am afraid of what it will do to my esophagus

Gail: I got the Rescue Remedy Spray. I also bought the Rescue Gum. I also saw Rescue Sleep and thinking of Chris. I got both at Whole Foods.

Chris: just wonder have you seen a Naturopath Doctor yet? I have another appointment with mine on the 11th, I've been to her since July 2011.

Will: I am 50 years old and I do feel my age lately :(...about six months ago I also had psoriasis on my scalp. I notice my finger nails have tiny lines through them too, I will ask my Naturopath Doctor. You are right about getting old. I feel it everywhere on my body.

Pink, just saw your post. Did you go to see the doctor yet re: redness in the back of your mouth? I am taking the DGL too and I think they are helping. Have you thought of honey? They are very soothing, I am using Manuka honey. I have no burning in my stomach, just the gas. I read somewhere maybe on this forum that when you chew gum, you should also walk around it will help bring down the gas.

Vivian: yes I burp a lot (but like small little burps), I wonder if its from gas or faulty valve? I know my doctor told me you will be fine you have mild symptoms compared to others and I was diagnosed with dyspepsia so that cause of my gas. I don't take my dgl enough haha. I am try and follow these remedies but sometimes I forget due to my busy life. Oh really did you have redness too? I said I would wait another couple weeks if its still there, then I will see a doctor about 24 hr test but I can't now my insurance is maxed out waiting for the "re-benefit period". Are you still on any anti-acid meds? I am trying to do all natural method. Those things have side effects, believe me or not my chest tightness, dyspepsia all came after being on PPI for like 4 months. so sad how pharmaceutical companies work.

I don't want to give up everything but I hve been watching my diet. I wonder if I should eat organic or not, college kid on budget haha. Thank you so much for responding so quickly.

No problem, Pink. I am off today. You should take DGL 20 minutes before eating and try to chew food slowly (I always forget to chew well!). I do occasionally get mild sore throat now. I did have gastritis over a year ago. I cut out coffee, soda, dairy. I was at Whole Foods this morning and their stuff are so expensive. I still take one Zantac 150mg before bed. Hope you feel better soon.
