Hopefully someone can answer this question. Why is it that if someone is diagnosed with Barrett's they cannot have the Linx procedure?

Doesn't it make sense to stop the constant exposure to acid? I mean simple logic dictates this.

It almost feels hopeless. I have 2 segments of Barrett's that are 5mm each. If I could get Linx I could prevent further exposure and even give myself a chance to heal.

But it looks like the incredible researchers at Torax don't want to help people. That's the way it looks like from where I'm sitting!!!!

According to the latest newsletter, they've relaxed this restriction:

I assume the reason why they may have restricted it in the first place, is that the device is somewhat new and unproven and since Barrett's is a higher risk scenario, they'd want you to go with more proven techniques (i.e. Nissen Fundoplication).

But, I guess they've seen enough proof at this point that Barrett's is not a reason for exclusion.

Speedygerd, that's great news. I previously had the impression that this restriction was related to the newness of the procedure. There is a doc near me who was in the initial group doing this procedure, so I believe he's been doing it for four years. I need to make an appointment to see him.

I have barretts and have been approved to have the linx done. I'm scheduled next week actually.

PaGhostHunter, thanks! It is great to know that a real person is having this done. It's weird because my Gerd is very well controlled. Some days I take a couple of TUMS and that is all I need. Except for the Barrett's I don't think I would qualify for surgery.
