Just dignosed with LPR

Hey everyone,

I went to my ENT today because I was concerned with the lump in my throat sensation, they did a scope down my throat and found redness and they think it's LPR, I suspected all long I did have this, I just need some help on the right approaches on what to take, my symptoms are very mild, right now I have to get a barium and 24hr probe testing done next week to rule out some more things, but so far I am trying to stay on very low acid low fat diet and I do not want to take any ppis, but I wont know that until I see my doctor after all the results from the testing. Right now I am trying to follow the dr. koufman detox diet to get rid of the pepsin lurking around as well as drinking the high alkaline water. So is anyone else beating lPR without medicine and when to consider surgery? I know sooner or later I might have to I read a lot about the linx but right now I am college student with no insurance so I am just trying to make through the next two years without any further complications. Sorry to sound monotone the disease is sad because I already have GERD so now having LPR is like cherry on top bad sundae. Has anyone used gaviscon advance but it's only in uk I am thinking about ordering some because suppsoible it catches the pepsin by coating the stomach? just wanted some opinions on this.

Hi, I have regular GERD and LPR. I'm under the care of Dr. Kaufman and it's been a brutal journey so far. I am apparently a "Super Refluxer" and I reflux(a lot) day AND night.

My only symptom 98% of the time is a cough. Hacking every 20 minutes or so...it's really hell for me.

I did the Induction diet. I sleep on a wedge. I try to eat a few hours before bed. I haven't touched any alcohol, fatty meats, tomato products, cheeses except Feta, I've cheated a little with chocolate and sugary things. But my diet is a LOT better. I'm at a good weight, I only wear elastic waist pants, etc. I took gaviscon advance which is DISGUSTING but I guzzled that.

Nothing worked. Nothing except the food I eat. That's the only thing that makes a difference.

I was so discouraged I let Dr. K put me on PPI's (something I swore I would never do) in the AM. Zantac four times a day and elavil four times a day. I spent like 500 on every holistic thing I could get my hands on. Mastic Gum, DGL, Marshmallow Root,
ALL THAT COULDN'T TOUCH THIS. Not even a bit.

Heres my point. Because I can't get any relief for GERD through meds. Because I just don't want give up good food and wine. because I can't "close the kitchen at six. Because I like to recline.
sleep with my husband, because we need sleep and quiet. Eat out, do yoga or run when I want to. etc etc etc. Because I think this is anatomical rather than chemical I am at the point I'm almost ready to beg for the surgery. I am ready. I have no social life, can't speak I am embarrassed. I AM DESPERATE for relief and only surgery will work. I believe ....

BTW the thing about gaviscon advance (which you can order from Canada too) is that you can't drink any liquids or it will break the seal. So it only works if you don't drink anything all night or between meals. I am a water drinker and I can't not eat or drink long enough for it to be effective. Good luck to you!
