GERD - part III

Hi,
i have been having chronic somach pain that i cant really explain. this has been going on for 3 years since i was rushed to the ER because i thought i was having a heart attack. i have waist pain, chest pain shoulder and back stabbing pain. i get full easily eaten small amount of food and already lost 37 pounds. i look horrible and cant even do anything.i have pain around my right ribcage and it feel like there is something there ready to explode. my chest is tight with pressure and 24hours heart burn and i get burning pain around the right rib cage when i eat and even if i dont eat i get pain.i regurgitate when i eat and it comes back up to my throat with burning sensation in my throat.i burp,feel nausea and almost feel like i wanna throw up but i cant. i have had Hida scan, Ultra sound, endoscopy, countless of blood work. cat scan. and everything came back normal. the endoscopy is to check if i have ulcer or to check for any damage to the esophagus. everything came back fine only mild gastritis. i have taken all kinds of medication with no result. i need help to give me an idea what i can do, or if anyone else has experienced this.

Gail: I think you should ask your doctor about iberogast, I was reading another post and we were all talking about dyspepsia/gastritis/gastroparesis/ slow moving/ IBS/ stomach people in general. I told them how the reason my gerd came about because whenever i eat I always get full quickly/bloating/gas/constipation/burping.... the usual stuff, and this stuff happened to me because of the PPI i read somewhere the ppi really messes up your digestive system by lowering your acid and making you loose an appetite so everyone who is reading this maybe you guys want to look into this new medicine it's herbal you can get it over the counter or amazon, but I might ask health care professional before taking it, so far people had good results on reviews with it. But the medicine is mainly targeted for IBS/dyspepsia so if you do end up having IBS look into it k?

Wow so you worked with a lot of amazing people, I am probably excited about that the most is learning from other people because I feel we can learn a lot more hands on and from people than any book can teach us. Yes they are an amazing breed, like something I have never seen but in fascinating way ;) Oh wow yeah no matter what place it is it's commute, I really hope you find something soon, I am the type that hates when I do not have job unless I am sick that's why I haven't had part-time job in while because I was depressed/and struck with this. Hahah your daughter sounded a lot like me and that's funny because we both did the same switch but to the opposite of we are now she did from medicine to social sciences (LAW) while I did from social sciences (was gonna major in the international affairs with concentration in economics/international law) to medicine. SHE really is just like her mama! I bet you are so proud! what law is she in?

Hi Benny, Sorry you are going through all this. I had many of your symptoms too. Have you had a gastric emptying test? It might be something to consider. Check out the symptoms for gastroparesis and see what you think. I saw where you thought it could also be gall-bladder. It's a shame some of these medical issues are so hard to diagnose. I do hope you get answers soon.

Gail, that's how slow of a poster I am. I started my post before you posted about your appt. Count me in as one who use to need that sedative before any procedure. Pretty soon you will have answers and this will be behind you.

i really appreciate the support and help, i take elavil for the pain but i have have constipation and the heartburn is terrible and worst when i eat and now it hurt really bad. i dont think i have had the gastric emptying test. am really in a lot of pain not matter what i eat and its really annoying and make me depressed. i will check online to see what its all about. i have taken so many antacid medication but they dont work. even pain medication dont work only elavil worked so far.

What have you taken for the constipation?  It can make us miserable for sure.

Chris and I were just talking about magnesium for that, have you tried that??

what does your Dr. say?

Colace stool softener helps, but you need to take it everyday.

I have found that 1 tablespoon of virgin (good kind) olive oil and 2 tablespoons orange juice at night really helps.  Mix it together and swallow in one or 2 gulps/

Benny, I know what you mean about the 24 hour heartburn. I couldn't eat for the pain and then on top of that I couldn't sleep for the pain. I know how bad it is. Keep doing what you are doing, searching for the answer. It will get better. There is a solution for you. Is there any way you could see a new GI to get a fresh set of eyes. That's what I had to do, when at 92 pounds my ex-GI sent me away with a prescription for gas on the stomach.

I hate to repeat myself but were you sent away with the gas rx after testing????

What eventually happened to stop the symptoms and allow you to regain some weight??

What did the 2nd GI doc do for you to solve the problem??

I have been reading about the sedatives they give for colonoscopy this am, The one called Versa (so you forget everything)  sounds very scary to me.

Do you know what you had??

I am calling today to see if that is what they use????

They told me yesterday, that I would be relaxed and would not feel any pain, but did not tell me "what" they will be giving me?????

I know after yesterday's anxiety, I will need something to get through walking in the door period.  Sometimes I think it is better not to go to the internet and research all this stuff.

The one website I went to had all these posters telling their experiences, which were mostly pretty scary!

My test will be done at the Doc's office, so I don't know if they have a regular anthesiogolist there??........talking to another patient in the waiting room yesterday, I got the impression that it is a "light" sedative.  She said it was a piece of cake, but for me I don't see it that way.  I already told the Dr. about my anxiety, however now I wonder if he wrote it down or if I will be taken in like anyone else  ????   This morning, I am thinking OMG, do I "have" to do this?????..........other than polyups  are there other things they could find?     I would love to know just why I am losing all this weight and having the stomach issues, but I am afraid the next few days I will get even more anxious.

Thanks again.  I know you are right, I need to stop reading that stuff!

I used to be on Xanax (cut into small pieces)  ;).....it helped a lot, when I was going through my husband's illness.  

I am going to call my doctor and see if he could call me in a few to take the next week.

I know it would help.  I haven't taken it for years and hate to begin it again, but for the next few days I know it would help.

Yesterday's anxiety was awful, don't want that again.  Have a good visit at the Dr.

blood work and scan came back normal only mild gastritis... endoscopy,ct scan,hida scan,2 ultra sound and series of blood work and all came back normal. all they said was goodnews but i feel bad with all the symptoms. i think i will hold of seeing a surgeon. you can suggest amy other scan or test i can do. my hida scan was 35%. and i am starting to have rash with dry skin and dont know if they are all related.

Hi everyone, I'm back!  Boy, it's great you guys have been keeping in contact and continuing this thread.  I've been busy trying to get healthy and taking care of my 90 year old mother at the same time.  Good news is my gastritis has finally settled down and I'm almost feeling like my old self again.  I eat almost regular portion meals now and I eat whatever I want....except for sodas, citrus and tomato stuff.  Things started getting better when I started taking the carafate.  That stuff really works.  I never went back on PPIs because they just made things worse.  I've been on Famotidine (Pepcid 20 mg) 4 times per day for the last few months and now some days it's just 1x a day. I take Carafate 2-3x per day.  It protects your stomach. 

Benny1, I have mild gastritis as well and lost 30 pounds in the process.  You're symptoms sound exactly like mine when I had it bad in the begining.  I went to ER 4 times in 3 months! Even though it's "mild" gastritis, it still hurts like hell.  The only advise I can give you is to take it slow.  I know it's hard but you must eat in order not to lose any more weight.  It's important to take your medication because that will help in the healing process.  It's going to take a loooong time to recover, but you will slowly feel better day by day.

it hurt real bad and i lost 37 pouns and have dark circle uncle my eyes. they really didnt say anything about the gastritis as if its not a big deal. i think i will talk to the GI to know if the gastritis can give me all this bad symptoms. have been to the ER so many times and first i thought i was having a heart attack. its was really scary and ever since i have pain and discomfort all over my body.
