Remeron/Mirtazapine

Has anyone used Remeron or Mirtazapine for gastroparesis or GERD?

I'm thinking of getting prescribed because of it's benefits to reduce symptoms of vomiting and nausea. Plus, it would allow me to combine 3 meds into one. I'm currently taking esctritalopram 5mg for anxiety, nortriptyline 10mg for hypersensitivity and erythromycin for gastroparesis.

On wikipedia it says that the antidepressant mirtazapine has proven effective in the treatment of gastroparesis unresponsive to conventional treatment. This is due to its anti-emetic and appetite stimulant properties. Mirtazapine acts on the same serotonin receptor (5-HT3) as the popular anti-emetic ondansetron.

Also, it's a powerful antidepressant that's usually prescribed when others fail. One nice thing about the drug is that it's a newer genration of antidepressant that allows for it's effect to take place in a short amount of time compared to other traditional meds. I believe you may start to see signs of the drug within about a week compared to 3 or 4.

Might as well give it a try. Add one more med to my list, also I don't like the sudden cardiac death side effect erythromycin has.

Anyways, I'll post again on this thread if it's benefiting my gerd/gastroparesis

Dogg; is this prescribed in the USA or is it a herbal medicine? I might discuss this with my doctor, because I am really interested in (Ibergast) I just read some reviews, and my gerd is caused from slow moving stomach, I mean I haven't been diagnosed but my family suffers from slow bowel movements, when I eat a lot I feel full easily, burping, and the food sitting there causing my LES to open up more (which make snese since I do not have hernia but this dyspepsia), maybe this is something that might cure or relieve me a lot. ahha!

hahaha Sixness you have the same condition as me? it's been really bad this week i guess because I been gorging more than usual but yeah it's pretty much the reason I got all this stuff, I wonder if the barrium caught a small hernia but I won't know yet, because my next follow up with ENT is in 2 weeks,I am getting the prob done on May 7 so scared how is it? uncomfortable? I know both you guys got it done :)

I have been thinking about seeing naturapath doctor because the best ENT in my state who is like very familar with all the LPR stuff lives like an hr and half away and I do not own car so boo me! maybe I will see him next year or something, but doctor won't prescribe you just anything right?

Currently: want carafrate to let my esophagus heal from the mild irratation, as well as my throat, and then the ibreghast for the dyspepsia and stuff maybe it will finally the whole GERD/LPR stuff.

Meeting with a surgeon on may 9th to discuss a diversion surgery. If he's not digging me getting a gastric by pass surgery for a slow empyting stomach than i'm going to mention the reversal or a possible nissen. Not sure what's going to happen yet, I want to get the surgery done because that's the only way I'm going to live a semi decent life. Something is just wrong with my body and I get absolutely no relief from meds.

In terms of quality of life my vocal cords dysfunction is just too bad on daily basis to live with much longer. It effects my sleep, my ability to drive, stand... basically anything. Living breathing through a straw is not fun. It never goes away, ontop of that I have a slow empything stomach + gerd/lpr.

So we'll see... Hope this doctor actually agree's with me. I got referred to him by a local surgeon. so I at least have a Dr to back up my claim of surgery. My local surgeon doesn't want to do the surgery himself because it maybe to complicated because of my TIF, so he referred me down to a UW-health surgeon in hopes I'll get a better outcome. This sounds nice and all, but I'm Kinda worried. This is my last step in terms of what can be medically offered to me. If He won't do anything, I'm SOL.

Ink, I didn't know you also suffered from slow emptying stomach. That could definitely be aggravating your LPR. I have had to change having my main meal of the day to lunchtime and a protein drink or smoothie for dinner. Otherwise, I get a lot of backwash from my undigested stomach contents. I use to take the carafate at night before bedtime to help protect my throat, and/or I would take it in the middle of the night when my stomach was more at rest. It was also for the gastritis. Dencha was the one that turned me onto carafate and the middle of the night dose as well. The peppermint may not be enough to aggravate your stomach. It will depend on how your gastritis is coming along. I really hope you get some relief for your mouth.

Sixness, I knew you had GP, but I didn't know you were suffering from it. Have you ever tried Domperidone? It is not FDA approved so I get mine from Canada. My GI didn't want me on Reglan, and besides it kept me in a stupor. I asked my doc yesterday about Iberogast and Triphala. He said he would look into it. Not sure if he will call and just tell me what he thinks on my next visit. I went ahead and ordered the Triphala and will give it a try. I think it will most likely supplement the Domperidone though. The I berogast is really overkill for me right now, but as I come off the Zantac I may be singing a different tune. I'm also looking into Nourishing Traditions eating/food prep. Basically starting the digestion before you eat the food.

Improved mood is good, reflux worse is not good. Why does it seem like it's always one step forward and two steps back.
