well I dont have a chronic cough !

the only symptoms I experience is the ANNOYING GLOBUS sensation that doesnt ever give me a break, I do experience phlem AT TIMES , allevaited by drinking akaline water above 8.7 PH , my voice gets tired when i talk, I dont know if i have LPR or LSN im so confused, im going for an endoscopy soon to spot the problem, if im not diagonesed with LPR could I have LSN (Layrngeal sensory neuropathy) ?? or could just have an anxiety problem thats caused my globus hystericus, despite the constant burping,, cause the more air you swallow the more your gonna burp !!

confused and frustrated with life till this point, my endoscopy is on wednsday I hope i can get some answers and proper treatment.

You could have one or both.

A 24 hr ph study dual probe should be done
This will tell you if acid is hitting your throat.

Is that 24 hour dual probe hard to do?

You didn't mention if you've tried any acid meds. They can make a big difference relatively quickly.

I also have voice issues, moderately tight throat, but also have bitter taste and burning tongue.

My throat was helped significantly by a PPI, which told me anxiety was not the main cause of my throat. I had fundo surgery and still have the symptoms, with improvement in my throat only.. but now, I am sure reflux isn't the main problem. I'm seeing a neurologist in a couple months.

Please let us know what the endoscopy shows. From my experience, you'll need to see an ENT to know how your vocal chords look. The GI docs, in my experience, don't even look at the throat/voice parts on their way to the stomach and missed stuff that the ENT saw plainly with his scope. The ENT didn't look down into the esophagus much at all though. I don't know why they don't just look at everything they can while they have a camera in there.. it seems so inefficient and can prolong suffering since a patient can wait months between tests where either might show the actual problem.

Yes I am currently on a PPI called Pariet 20mg (Rabprazole sodium), its helping a little bit I THINK lol but I still feel that globus sensation, it doesnt leave me alone, I know they made me wait soooo long for my endoscopy, finally im doing it next wednsday, I will let you know what my results are !!

And yes I really think ive damaged my nerves in my throat, because this problem started due to ANGER and constant screaming, i am a emotionally stressed human being, and im only 23 yr old male, ANGER punishes you I guess im a learning a lesson here, and yes Ive already demanded I see an ENT after my endoscopy, I also demanded the doctor try ELAVIL to see if I can balance the nerves back to normal, but I havent went through any tests yet, only a blood test showing everythings fine, my endoscopy test will be my first !

I really hope this globus sensation goes away, its so annoying ..

Yes it is annoying, I had it strong for probably 2-3 years before I went to see a dr. about it, since I thought it was stress/anxiety and that I could just relax it away. Wrong.

But, I'm not sure in my case if excessive reflux was the cause. I actually think I developed some kind of sensitivity/nerve thing, which acid made worse.. so reducing acid helped, but acid may not have been the root cause. That's the boat I'm in now, the surgery helped the symptoms some, but either the nerves are damaged beyond repair, or there is some other cause of sensitivity and maybe I didn't need surgery or a PPI.

I have heard that LPR symptoms can take a long time to improve with a PPI, because the throat is so sensitive to acid. In my case as I mentioned, my globus feeling went away within a day or two of a PPI, but then again, I do not necessarily think acid was the cause of my globus (as described in previous paragraph). Yes this is a very confusing part of the body, there are so many things that can affect it. I hope I am eliminating possibilities as I continue to push my health care providers for answers.

Good luck, I'll be looking forward to your endoscopy results, but don't be surprised if they find mild or no irritation. GI are used to dealing with heartburn cases, so if they don't see signs consistent with heartburn patients (visible irritation of esophagus), they'll probably tell you that you don't have a reflux problem. They may or may not be right.

i have had this globus feeling for 3 months, the day i get rid of it is the day Im a happiest man on earth, of they dont find any damage or strictures to the ospehgus then Im going to diagonse my self with LSN because i really have damaged my nerves from allt he constant screaming and yelling with anger !! its abit of both I used to snack alot on sour lollies too !

but to be honest my friend, I havent even been diagonesed by a professional yet ! my doctor keeps telling me to stop jumping to conclusions, as I have told him on and on that I have silent reflux(LPR) but if its not LPR its gotta be LSN cause I have damaged nerves I think

I did my endoscopy, it was so easy, and I'm so relieved at my results, everything came back NORMAL, no irratation to the esophegus, no evidence of reflux, no nothing :/ lol the gastro doc said that it cant be silent reflux, thats causing your globus, so im most likely will be diagonsed with globus hystericus due to my past anger problems !!

So I guess LPR is ruled out? however LSN ill have to go through a different test, but most lilkley I think I have Globus Hystericus due to my emotional stress ! lol

I'd wait to see what biopsies will show, to be certain. Also, maybe it differs where you had your test, but my endoscopy missed a bunch of stuff from my tongue to my upper esophagus (or wherever he started looking), which only an ENT saw.

Well test coming back normal is good news, but doesn't answer all your questions. Have you ever asked the dr for meds to help you relax?

I am so stressed at this globus , it wont leave me alone :( my doctor has refered me to a throat specialist now ENT, I HOPE HE CAN HELP ME,

PLEASE ANYONE GIVE ME SOMETHING TO GET RID OF THIS FEELING, i havent been able to swallow clearly for 4 months now !! THe doctor has offered me Xanax but my mother WONT LET ME TAKE IT cause she said its got alot of side effects !! Please anyone I need some relief from this, Natural remedy anything to relax me !!

I havent been relaxed for a long time, yesterday after my endoscopy I didnt feel the globus much coz i was so happy at my results, then the next day it comes right back to ruin my day :(

I suffer from the lump in throat also. Chewing gum does help some and when I drink aloe or manuka honey it's soothing and does offer some relief. I also take liquid mag/cal with d3 to help with spasm (thightness).

If you can get a higher + manuka the better it is, I buy wedderspoon 16+. Liquid mag/cal with d3 is a magnesium/calcium with d3 supplement you can buy at health store or I order from amazon. I also take a multi B-vitamin to help with nerve control or repair for the spasm.

and get this, everytime I eat CHEERIOS with ALMOND MILK, the glass of water after is the BEST ONE, it all opens up !

Awesome !!! if this makes you swallow clearly, i will buy that Liquid mag/cal with d3, I found citrate !! I hope this works, and Ill have to try to Relax, cause Im pretty tense atm,

Ill defialtey try it, i mean it couldnt hurt right?

Viper777ism....I have the same problem....identical.  My throat hurts when I talk.  I saw an ENT who said that I have a globus sensation but that there is nothing there to worry about.  I did a barium swallow for acid but that came back negative.  It started with a sore throat, that went to a burning sensation at the back of the throat and sometimes my tongue burned.  However, I think I have allergies.  My doctor suggested I take allergy pills for a while...it has helped a lot but the throat still hurts when I talk especially if I talk loud or for a long time. 

I had silent reflux and I am not sure for how long...maybe my throat or vocal cord got damage with acid....I don't know.  I had the NF over two years ago.  You have got me curious though.  Please keep us posted.

I am at a loss too.  I am trying the allergy pills for a month and I am going to ask my doctor to refer me to an allergist.

Cindy, what allergy pills are you taking? I'm going through similar issues, tongue burning, voice issues, throat tightness. I have a huge thread on it here in this forum.

I recently ran across a paper where people with burning tongue (described as level 10 constant pain), had big relief by taking Loratadine (claritin), famotidine (pepcid) and aspirin or celebrex. I tried it, and did have some relief, but I believe the aspirin (I tried naproxen too) was irritating my stomach which led to other discomforts. I never had level 10 constant pain to begin with so I do not believe I was in the same class of patients, though it did help the tongue symptoms a bit (more than anything I've tried so far).

Please keep in touch. I am constantly updating my thread as I seek treatment. I have an upcoming appt with ENT and with neurology, and had NF earlier this year which I expected to fix all my problems, which it hasn't.

Hi drtinsac,  I take a regular Claritin. I also use a sinus rinse every morning and I take oregno oil...five drops two times a day.  It has helped a lot.  I don't have the burning tongue anymore.  I still have some throat issues.  It hurts when I talk.  I have taken an allergy and sinus pill together in one and I found that helped better than just the claritin.  However, I bought 40 of the claritin.  I am going to continue with it for a bit longer.

Cindy - do you recall which sinus pill you took (or was it already combined with claritin)?

Also, how do you use the oregano oil?

Forgot to mention, but in the paper I described, that medication was all taken twice a day.I was using walmart brand loratadine, it's cheap.

Cindy - also, I'm curious if you noticed a relationship between your throat tightness and the burning tongue? For me, when my throat is tight, my tongue isn't burning. When my throat feels better, my tongue feels worse.

drtinsac, it was one that was combined for allergy and sinus issues...extra strength...I might go back to that....I will go to the drugstore tomorrow and get back to you after lunch.

I use oregano oil drops....5 drops in a tiny bit of water or juice, whatever you like. You can mix it in honey too but I find that burns more. Don't take it alone as it really burns. I was told that I can take it up to three times a day.

drtinsac, the back of my throat and my tongue burn at the same time. I thought for sure it was acid but it didn't burn at night, it was mostly during the day, so that didn't make sense to me.
