I have have what most would call acid reflux for 15 plus years. have been on various meds to manage it for most of that time. In the last couple of years it has escalated and meds are no longer able to maintain it. I have a Small sliding Hiatal Hernia on top of the reflux. Plus I think all the side affects of the various PPIs etc are complicating life in general. I haven't had a complete nights sleep in over a year, esophagus smaspms are pretty common, especially when eating bread stuffs. Lately breathing has become difficult and I have many more days of complete crappy feelingness. I eat Tums and Rolaids like they are candy. One side affect is I suffer from Calcium based Kidney Stones so Tums are not good for me.
My Surgeon, whom I really like and trust is straight up and told me there is a 1 in 10 chance I may still have to take some sort of PPi relief, but I have High Hopes i am not one of them. I have read numerous stories on the web about it, and it seems it is usually one of two or three things causing it not to work. Either they don't follow the direction for the postop diet, The surgeon does a poor job of it, or sickness such as vomiting undoes the procedure.
I have been through the battery of tests and have to laugh most of the time. While doing the upper GI, the tech has me roll over on my side and goes "Whoah!, you have a lot of reflux there sir". I hate that I am old enough for the Sir part was my first thought. I had the PH test and my JD score came back rather high. It was 126. When my surgeon read this report he too did a little step back motion and said It was pretty high. Which explains why I have no enamel left on my teeth.
I am just looking forward to feeling better. Getting some rest and being able to enjoy a few more foods again.
On boards like this I mostly see people like me asking questions, or people upset because it isn't working. I would like to hear from the success stories from TIF. Like how are you doing 4-8 weeks in and 6 months and a year in. Are you back to a normal diet? Or still restricted? and to what extent?
One Question i do have. My dietitian told me in the first couple of weeks I could drink the ensure clear, and gave me a coupe samples of the "Enlive" OMG that apple is awful!!!!!!. Any other options and how does it compare to the high priced Ensure in the bottles? I bought a Ninja blender to help with pureeing everything but the first week is scary.
Thanks for all the info you have on here it has been a great help.
Thanks
