surgical clips after Nissen

So I had an X-ray the other day and it and it showed that there were 5 surgical clips in my abdomen. I was wondering if anyone else had something like this as well or is it just me?

As far as I know I don't have them, but I did find this study conclusion that mentions them.  The way it's written, it sounds like the clips are placed at the wrap site with the sutures, so wouldn't be in the abdomen:

 I would not assume anything.  Have you called your surgeon to confirm that the clips should be there?  That's what I would recommend.

Yes, probably everyone who gets a wrap has clips. When they divide (cut) the blood vessels to the fundus of the stomach so they can use it to wrap around the esophagus they put clips on them. The blood vessels are too large to just cauterize. It's a normal thing for a surgeon to do, nothing unusual.

So the clips stay inside of you forever?

I only have clips from my gallbladder removal. I have had several CTs and MRIs that show those.

Yep, they stay there forever.

So, Bill, that was one of my next questions, as I do not know what my surgeon used, sutures or staples. If staples were used, I assume they are of a metal that is not affected by having a MRI? Linda

The clips they use don't affect getting an MRI. I have had them since '04 with no problems.
