Well I just order my iberogast....can't wait to give it a try. To think all this time the dr's thought I was crazy when I told them I wasn't alone in the womb. This would explain why we're the best two looking scarecrows "hanging around" in the corn fields! lol  Now stop stealing all my straw.  smhair

I know you have good intentions but I just don't buy into surgery as a miracle cure. There's just too many possible side effects for me to risk at this time. A good exmaple...if nissen is so great why did they come up with linx, TIF, LES pace maker? None of them are full proof, if they were I'd wouldn't hesitate.

My day under the knife may not be that far off but I'm not there yet. You have said your going forward with surgery, which one appeals to you?

Most of the time when I bet on sports, I win (it's something I'm good at and understand), however when I go to the slot machine, I walk away broke. For now I'll pass on the game of roulette.

LOL. Hey, at least we have a sense of humor about this stuff. I am hoping the Iberogast works, I ordered it from amazon. I would love to be able to get off Nexium. Even if I had to take an H2 Blocker. Sigh. I actually did ok when I was away this past weekend in Cape May. I was able to handle vanilla water ice, a few rum mixed with water, and some gluten free spinach ravioli in olive oil. I also ate a turkey burger on a gluten free bun and some gluten free, vegan cinnamion cookies.  I did not feel much different so I guess that is good. I am just dealing with the back pressure and migrating rib pains. Walking actually helps after meals.

Have you tried weaning really slowly. I weaned off this past spring, by cutting back very slowly. I literally opened up a capsule and counted the tiny balls in my prevacid(generic) - over 200 of those little suckers. I spent over 3 months gradually increasing the number of balls I removed. I think too many times people are trying to cut back too quickly. I wanted to avoid as much pain as possible. I'm still on an h2 blocker......I can live with that for the time being. My ultimate goal is to get off of it too.

Doggbones, sorry about your setback. Think of it as just a temporary setback. There were times when I would up my dose again if the rebound was too bad. Then when the time was right, cut back again. Surgery most likely is not an option for me anyway and my bones are already weak enough. cry

DOGGBONES--- I'm scheduled for a Nissen Fundoplication on August 28th. Because I have a significant hiatal hernia, I'm not a candidate for the other procedures. Believe me, I would prefer the LINX or Esophx procedures. I agree that any and all reflux surgeries come with risks. What I do know is that every medical peer review study to date, including JAMA and Harvard have concluded that the Nissen has a tried and proven track record. If I were a candidate for the LINX, I'd probably go that route. Insurance companies follow the AMA's recommendations and studies, which is one reason most insurance companies won't cover the costs of what they consider to be "experimental procedures." The data simply doesn't exist to support the long-term efficacy of some of the other surgeries.

Let me know how the Iberogast goes for the both of you! I think I might try that in a little bit.

I'm just curious, have you tried DGL?

I was thinking of picking that up soon too.

I take DGL now, I take 3/4 tablets 20 min before I have coffee (I know, bad dogg). It doesn't really do any for the reflux but does help ease the blast of the coffee. The more I read about Iberogast, I really have high hopes.

Before your surgery make sure they do "all" the testing to make sure it's right for you. There's a couple members here that had nissen and tif but still have issues because their dr's didn't do all the right test to make sure the surgery would work for them.

DOGGBONES-- I've had numerous tests and procedures. What I do know is that because of my hiatal hernia, I can't do LINX or TIF. I have run out of options. Nissen surgery is the only thing left. My LES is shot. It doesn't close. The pressure there is insufficient to stop regurgitation. At night I aspirate liquid pure stomach acid into my trachea. When that happens, I nearly choke to death, and the pain is excruciating. I have to rush to the ER to aid me in breathing and to stop the pain. I can't live like this anymore. I spent the last year reading everything I can about the Nissen. Fortunately, my surgeon has performed over 600 Nissens. He's accomplished and skilled in performing the loose wrap. I've done my homework, spoken with other doctors and surgeons. I am told that "This guy is the best." He thoroughly tested me before recommeding the surgery. The Nissen is specifically designed fo people with my type of reflux/compounding hiatal hernia. I'd be a liar if I didn't admit that I'm scared about having surgery. But the reality is, if I don't have the surgery, I'm going to do permanent damage to not only my esophagus, but also my trachea. I hope that you can pursue the least invasive method if you do have to make a choice about surgery
