I have GERD. I've shortness of breath going on since 1.5 years and there is no respite. It is slightly better now bit I cannot walk quickly, forget about running. Even if I do treadmill in slow speed for 10 minutes, I feel shortness of breath. My primary care physician is clueless. I had gone through lungs test, asthma test, endoscopy, treadmill test for heart, PET scan. None of the tests showed anything. I feel shortness of breath even in hot shower(moderately hot) or cold places, so humidity might be causing this problem. I feel shortness of breath after eating and gets better after I burp. I read through several forums, checked with different doctors, nobody had a clue. I began reading about a nurse's article - she says there is a problem in Vocal Cords that lets it close and open intermittently, that might be causing shortness of breath and is sometimes sensitive to climate changes(humidity). Also I heard someone talking about hiatal hernia in the forums. In my case, I felt Vocal cords are giving problem and the ENT doctor checked and found them as fine and I'm back to square one again. I read somewhere that people who have GERD for a long time will have problems with Vocal cords. But doctors don't even look into vocal cord or talk about it. This is just my experience and not an advice. Please consult your doctor for your situation.
