Hi UFCSam,OUCH! Fortunately, I didn't have hiccup problems, but many suffer with hiccups during early recovery...the diaphram was irritated with the surgery, so hiccups can be expected. That will subside after things heal more.
Maybe you could start a new thread: "Hiccups After Nissen...Help!" and see if you get any hits with advice. I can only suggest that you just take it slow with eating and drinking, but I know that doesn't help at all. Wish I had experience that I could share, but unfortunately, I'm woefully ignorant regarding post-op hiccups.
I found this on a hiccup-related post, and it's not the first time this remedy has been mentioned:
I can stop a spell of these hiccups immediately by taking some candied Ginger root, chewing it in my mouth carefully, swallowing the juices and spitting out the pulp. The ginger has the effect on me of soothing the esophagus and halts the hiccup urge. It has worked repeatedly for me. It may be placebo effect, but if you Google it, ginger is listed as something for hiccups. Plus, it tastes really good. Just don't swallow the fibrous pulp!
Hey, it's worth a try!
Good luck, and happy healing!
Take care,
Denise
