I have acid reflux for 4 months. My GI prescribed omezeprole 20mg 2 x day and carafate for my acid reflux and was wondering if anyone else has these symptoms other than normal GERD symptoms. Wondering if these are due to reflux or the medicines

- Fatigue and tiredness especially after eating

- Pain in chest and shoulders

- burning sensation under strenum

- shortness of breath

- random muscle twitches

At least some of those could be GERD. Have you also had your heart checked?

I had EKG, blood work and cat scan on my heart about 2 months ago. It was normal.

Yes, I have those. Except the shoulder pain. In regards to shortness of breath and reflux. If you have problems breathing in as opposed to out. You most likely have reactive airway disease as opposed to asthma. it wouldn't show up on pulmonary function tests...

Shoulder pain is strange. Makes me think something bigger is wrong... Like heart or stroke like problems. I do get some left side chest pain when I take nexium... Don't know if it raises my blood pressure, but thats what it feels like to me. There was an article posted recently talking about the impact ppi's can have on your heart... Some have been know to have palpitations while on ppi's. I know I do when I'm on nexium...

Yep...even the shoulder pain. I no longer get a normal heartburn sensation. I feel it in my left shoulder since my 1st redo.

Yes. I have those symptoms. I am newly diagnosed (2 weeks ago) and I too have been having those symptoms. Unfortunately my GERD comes w/ anxiety and what triggers my anxiety is the wrong foods. I found a way to get around that by taking a zantac before I eat the wrong things. And it worked fine for me once, but yesterday I ate spaghetti (sauce has tomatoes, HUGE no, no for GERD) and even though I took zantac before I ate, I did not have any heartburn, but I have been a little anxious since last night. My fingers and legs have been twitching and shaking.

Shortness of breath - I find that my nose is acting like I am cold. One of my nostrils gets clogged and other one opens. After a while it changes. That is causing shortness of breath for me and it is waking me from sleep as well.

I also feel that my shortness of breath could be because of anxiety but not sure how to check. Does anyone have a similar feeling.

When I had sinus surgery about 11 years ago my surgeon explained to me that our sinuses switch from one side to the other (being open or clogged) many times each day. I can't remember the exact timeing, but think it was something like every 20 minutes or so.
It's could be the reflux is causing this to be worse for you.

That is exactly what is happening. One side opens and other side clogs. Causing me to wake up every night. Tiring. Anyone has any ideas how to prevent or reduce this problem ?

I had read somewhere that gargling with alkaline water helps.
