Some questions about Elavil

Hello everyone, as I have read posts on this forum about laryngeal hypersensitivity and thought about my symptoms, I have begun to think that I might be experiencing some neuropathy. I have a few questions for those of you that have taken elavil or some other kind of anti-depressant for neuropathy.

1. Did it actually heal/cure you or did it just cover up the symptoms?
2. Did you feel like your mental ability (ability to focus, memorize, and think) was impaired at all? I will be starting medical school in two weeks so I would prefer not to experience any of these kinds of side effects.
3. Did it make you feel better?
4. How did you bring up the subject of neuropathy/antidepressants with your doctor?
5. Any other advice/tips?

I have been diagnosed with LPR and irritable larynx syndrome brought on by a Bravo probe attached to my esophagus.  I have lost my voice and nearly my sanity.   I tried the elavil 10 mg one time and it constipated me and made the lump sensation much worse.  My ENT says Tramadol and Gabapentin are other possibilities, but im scared to try either of those.   What are your symptoms??

My symptoms are a weak voice that gets tired easily, feeling of a lump in my throat, and general pain in my throat. about 3 years ago when I first started having these symptoms the ENT looked at my throat and saw inflammation consistent with reflux. He started me on dexilant which made significant improvement. However, after foolishly continuing to sing (which bothers my throat) I have now reached a point where my ENT has not seen any inflammation, yet my voice is much weaker and my larynx in more pain than before, causing me to think that I may have some form of neuropathy.

It made my mouth dry too.  So did the acid blockers. 

the miralax was prescribed for constipation that i started having last sept.  I just started taking it so i dont know if it will help the throat symptoms.  I have gallbladder/liver issues too.  Thats why i went to the doctor in the first place and they put that probe in my esophagus.  I think it caused nerve damage.  The ativan is the only thing that has helped with the throat but it is highly addictive and not for long term use.  Ive already been on it too long.  Tomorrow i have to sign up with a psychiatrist just to handle that prescription because my doctors have bailed on me in that regard.  I seem to be walking straight into the fires of hell with every step.  I wish i had never even seen a doctor in the first place.  I would probably be in decent shape if i had just given myself time to heal.  I had severe pain in my gallbladder region after making several very long trips. I was driving 5000 miles a month and i think it screwed up my digestion.  Now i have real problems.   My voice hurts when i use it as well.   REally bad.  How bad does yours hurt on a scale of 1-10?  I find that when my voicebox is hurting bad, the lump isnt as bad and vice versa.  What a wonderful trade off that is.    p.s. did you say you had a ph empendence study?? Barium swallows?

What did those test show?  Did the ph test show any reflux?  How about the manometry?  Any cricopharyngeal spasm?   I worry that my voice wont ever come back too and that i will have to live with this throat lump and pain.  Sometimes mine is a 10.  Its almost always a 5 at least.

I will let you know if i try the neurontin or tramadol.  Not looking forward to either really, but i dont think i have reflux.  Good luck.  This is a miserable thing to deal with
