Yes, peppermint is not good for reflux patients. I just don't understand why they add peppermint to soooo many medicine products such as gaviscon advance and tums . While they say it doesn't bother everyone, it is a standard piece of advice from the doc to avoid peppermint. When I asked 'why' the doc said it relaxes the LES. You will hear from others on this topic

Thanks for the responses. I get confused because I use to love anything peppermint. Peppermint Patty candy, mints, ect...and i would always get heartburn from it but then I have been told to chew on a mint for GERD or nausea symptoms. I now know I am one of the ones who can't have mint of any kind i guess.

I guess I'm the odd person when it comes to mint.  It helps my LPR, soothes my sore throat and helps to lessen my coughing.  I chew trident, original flavor gum, which seems to be very minty to me although it doesn't specify mint flavor.  It just says flavoring in the ingredients.  I've tried doing without it but it didn't seem to have any effect other than my throat started hurting more and I was coughing a lot more.  I hope I'm not doing any harm that I'm not aware of but it seems to make me feel better.
