This may be a stupid question but .....

Can a hernia ever repair itself?   If so, is there anything I can do to help it repair itself?

I was diagnosed with a large hernia and he said it was high up.  It gives me some problems like aching once-in-awhile but I haven't really noticed anything other than I have lpr with coughing .  I have my  GERD under control with PPI's which I need because I had 3 ulcers due to a thin stomach lining.  I'm not crazy about taking them but I don't seem to have any problem with them that I know of.  And I do all the typical things that I'm supposed to do.

Basically no. Some have tried different exercises to try and heal it, but from what my surgeons have told me and showed me the only repair is surgical. If it gets too big and your stomach herniates into your chest that can be life threatening, so be sure to keep an eye on it.

It doesn't really help, I get chiropractic adjustments all the time , the diaphragm must be repaired like a muscle which has torn or when you get a large gash it must be stitched and preferably meshed to reinforce it.

Caseysmom-- I'm having surgery on the 28th for a progressive hiatal hernia. They only get worse with time. If a chiropractor tells you that he/she can correct a hernia, please don't buy into that. That is a false statement and in the United States a chiropractor could face law suits or professional discipline by making such a claim.

Hiatal hernia symptoms vary among sufferers. I get abdominal pain after eating. Sometimes I have trouble with excessive belching. I have terrible problems with regurgitation. Sometimes I have pain after exercising.
